Blair Atholl (from the Scottish Gaelic: Blàr Athall, originally Blàr Ath Fhodla[1]) is a small town in Perthshire, Scotland, built about the confluence of the Rivers Tilt and Garry in one of the few areas of flat land in the midst of the Grampian Mountains. The Gaelic place-name Blair, from blàr, 'field, plain', refers to this location. Atholl, which mean 'new Ireland', from the archaic Ath Fhodla is the name of the surrounding district.

This small hotel houses a top restaurant. We were complaining about the size of our room and bed until we tried the kitchen.
You feel treated as a house guest, because the appetizers are served in a separate living room with several lounges. From there, the guests are escorted to the dinning room in a staggered way, to avoid overloading the kitchen work. Then you choose from 4 options of the 3 courses and get petit fours with coffee or tea, back in the lounge.
Every day, the chef prepares a different menu.
The next morning, we had breakfast in the dinning room. I don´t know what the Scottish hens eat, but the eggs here are delicious, with a deep yellow, almost orange yolk. And the bacon, oh, the bacon! It´s actually a ham steak with a bacon rim.

On a beautiful sunny day early November the four of us sat outside waiting for our lobster and chips to be prepared.
They were delicious, the staff were very friendly and looked after us well.
We purchased a bottle of white wine from the self service restaurant within the main building, borrowing glasses and had a great time. We carried our own linen napkins and what fun.
The cod and chips also looked tremendous, well recommended you give it a try.

Fern Cottage Restaurant in the heart of Pitlochry is a firm favourite, both for local residents and visitors to Highland Perthshire. We are located as close as you can get to the heart of this picturesque Victorian town. Fern Cottage Restaurant offers a warm Highland welcome, truly tasty food and personal service for every customer. Our menus have an emphasis on flavour, the freshness of Scotlands' larder and a taste of the Mediterranean. There is now more than ever on offer with different menus at lunch and dinner times. Retaining much of the original ethos of using Scottish, seasonal ingredients to create dishes with a Mediterranean twist, our food is cooked to order and guarantees a treat for your taste-buds, whether a classic or a contemporary dish. Fern Cottage is now on winter hours. We will be open for lunches from 12noon with last orders at 2.15pm. We will re-open for pre-theatre or a la carte in the evening all using seasonal produce - we offer you something special every time. Head Chef Rifat Aycan has created the new menus using an exciting new range of dishes packed with flavour and all beautifully presented. Whether front of house or 'behind the kitchen door, every member of our team is dedicated to ensuring you enjoy your visit, spread the word and come back for more!
I was at Fern Cottage today for Mother's Day and this did not disappoint. We had a lovely meal at lunch time, great menu. Lighter lunches if you choose or a 2 course set menu. Beautifully fresh cooked food and fantastic service. Mediterranean style in a lovely place.

Lovely restaurant- nice & cosy on a bitter February night. Waiting staff were attentive & helpful. Nicely varied menu.
We ordered homemade scotch eggs to start; highly recommended.
I had the pie of the day (puff pastry crust in a pie dish). Steak & ale. Cooked to perfection. Delicious.
OH had the lambs liver with black pudding mash and was delighted to be offered the choice of pink (obviously!) or well done.
We treated ourselves to dessert; sticky toffee pud with butterscotch sauce. Outstanding. We also had some lovely ice cream.
Wholeheartedly recommend the Auld Smiddy. Don’t hesitate to go.

A working watermill has been on the site since 1590s. We mill our own flour and oatmeal which we then use in our bakery attached to the mill. We serve breakfast, light lunches and cakes and our aim is to provide simple wholesome food with our baking and locally sourced food. We bake fresh everyday and have a range of bread, bagels, croissants, cakes and lots more available to enjoy in the tearoom or takeaway.
Having seen the signs on the road through the village encouraging us to pop in here for coffee, we were disappointed to find a board outside advising that they are "closed for the season" and won't re-open until the end of March.
Perhaps they could take the signs in until then?

A quirky wee Tearoom, serving great Food, Teas, Coffees, Cold Drinks and Awesome Cakes! A Happy Experience in today's crazy world!
Arrived with my wife and 7 month old looking for lunch and boy did we have a treat. Staff were great with our daughter, gave us a good table with space around to keep the pram out of the way and a high chair that is suitable for young ones. Both my wife and I had soup and cake combo, with me having a vanilla milk shake too, while she was the adult and had tea. The staff gave us some soup for our girl to have, which she did try, but it was a little peppery than we would have gave her normally, but she tried it. The cake was amazing, i recommend the lemon drizzle.. you can't go without having some.
On the whole, it's a good place with baby change facilities too. Probably the best coffee shop in pitlochery.

Been here the last 2 nights during our short stay. Food absolutely excellent. Very friendly service, seem to do a lot of fundraising for the local community. We’ve tried their black pudding suppers and their fish suppers. Definitely on the larger portion size, would go back not a problem. One of the best chippies I’ve had.
