Love coming here with friends and family and to wet their pallet with the delicious choice of menus available here always. There is an early bird menu which is very affordable price wise. The pub side is very cosy and a beautiful setting. The Thatch has won many awards for their cuisine.

We went here for lunch. I ordered from the more substantial lunch menu, but after enquiring whether more 'dainty' (for the want of a better word) options existed, the Sandwich menu was produced, from which the persons accompanying me ordered. The food was fine. The sandwiches were apparently very pleasing. I had some variety of pie. It was not too bad although there were masses of boiled vegetables and potatoes with it which could be cut down by at least half. It seemed busy with locals (elderly mostly) which is a good sign I suppose in some respect.

A friendly welcome awaits you as well as a selection of delicious home made food in Brambles. Plus a wonderful selection of unusual juices, mustard, jams & chutneys to take home. Almond and soy milk options of coffee and hot chocolate. Conveniently located beside the public car park at St Brendan's Church this is a must stop into cafe on your next visit to Birr. Many thanks for excellent fare and service :-))

Quaint, Cosy Family Friendly Restaurant overlooking the River Brosna. Ideal for Family Gatherings, Corporate Lunches, Romantic Dinners Or Light Lunches. Private Room Available Upstairs that can accomodate up to 40 people.
Had our last Ireland trip evening meal here, it was perfect. We were greeted by a lovely girl who seated us by a window facing a river and a busy stone bridge. I had pulled pork as a starter, it was scrumptious! and the brown bread I wanted to take home. For the main meal we both had the sirloin steak. We like our steaks cooked differently and they were both as we ordered. For dessert I had the most scrumptious rhubarb crumble, possibly the best dessert of my trip. I had an option of cream and custard and ice cream, I opted for just ice cream. Scrumptious!

A pepperoni for me...a margarita for him...10 mins to rectify the issue with his wrong pizza, with my pizza going cold in the meantime...wine was plonked down in front of us, no glass poured...pizza tasted ok wen we eventually got the order right...went to order desserts and ice cream listed was not available..at 7.30pm on a sat eve...will not be in a hurry to return here...

On my second visit to Birr, I stopped here for lunch. Kelly's is a beautiful pub with a Victorian-style decor and lots of dark wood. I had a Guinness pint and the cottage pie, which was excellent. It was noon on a Sunday, and there were quite a few locals in the restaurant and at the bar. Service was friendly (if a bit slow) and prices were reasonable. It doesn't look that intriguing from the outside (like the nearby Chestnut Pub), but the inside is really nice.
