I moved to Bangor 2 years ago and struggled to find somewhere that served good food, had good service and had a nice vibe without feeling pretentious or stuck up. Jamaica Inn ticks all those boxes and it's not overly expensive. You could have a 3 course meal for 2 people with a few drinks or a bottle of wine for around £100.
The prices are very reasonable, the food quality is very good and I've never really had any issues with service. When the restaurant is busy, expect some delays but that's common in any restaurant.
I've tried most of the menu over the years. Seafood is always excellent. The steak with Guinness porterhouse cheese is amazing and there's a decent selection of cocktails (I'd recommend the dark and stormy).
There are 2 small issues that I think let the restaurant down a little (just being picky). As a business owner myself I'm always looking at ways of improving things.
First one is that there are too many staff to a table. When arriving you have front of house which is fair enough, you're then shown to your table but once seated, after 3 courses you could have 4 or 5 different people coming over to your table asking if everything is ok etc. I think that lacks the personal touch a little.
They really need to drop the menus printed on a4 sheets of paper. Menus are often crumpled or stained. Surely it wouldn't take much to have nice leather bound menus that are printed seasonly? This is has nothing to do with the food obviously but I just think handing someone 2 sheets of paper when they arrive isn't the best first impression.
I've never just turned up to the restaurant out of the blue and expected a table. They are usually always fully booked so I would advise if you're booking a table for a Friday or Saturday at a prime time to book it a few days in advance.

Situated on Bangor seafront with views over Belfast Lough The Salty Dog Hotel & Bistro prides itself on using local produce to create traditional and contemporary dishes with a twist. From bar snacks, to classic pub food and bistro dishes, as well as our a la carte, we work with local producers to bring the best of Irish Ingredients to the plate; breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in-between.
It's just about 2 years since we were last at the Salty Dog and time we returned to check that our first impressions were correct. Yes they were! Although most of the tables were empty when we arrived the restaurant soon filled up before we...MoreGlad to have you back. Hopefully it will not be so long next time. Very glad you enjoyed the meal.

The best of international cooking using great local produce served with flair.
It was a windy night and we were seeking shelter as well as some fare to balance the inclement nature outside - and the Restaurant managed this most famously...

Welcome to The Rabbit Rooms, where we mess with your head, not your your food. Live local music three nights a week, excellent beer selection, awesome cocktails including our famous teapot cocktails (perfect to share among friends). Serving food every day in the downstairs bar and every night in the upstairs restaurant with great views over-looking Bangor Marina. Also breakfast available every Sunday Morning from 9am. See ya there!
Table for two upstairs with mussels as a starter which was excellent and nicely served by a pleasant waitress. I had the sirloin cooked medium rare as a main which was good but seasoned too much with salt. Next time I go I will request no salt. My daughter had the bacon cheeseburger with fries and loved it.
Very friendly staff and I recommend this restaurant.

We are ideally situated on the corner of Main Street opposite Bangor's Bus & Rail Station and the local Post Office. Open seven days a week for lunch, tapas, dinner and drinks.
Loved my dining experience at the Ava.
Myself, daughter and 2 x grandchildren went for evening meal.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a very professional, friendly guy ( I think his name was Chris), who showed us to our table and explained food choices etc. Then a lady came and took order. Our food was delicious, from starter to mains and children's meals also, each of us thought 10 out of 10. Very professional staff and fast service also.
Will most definitely be back, I think the Ava will now be my no.1 restaurant in Bangor. Thank You Ava, it was all truly great.

Returned on Saturday night after a lengthy absence and experienced a lovely evening from start to finish at this restaurant. Had a lovely welcome on arrival by Ken and Andrew, and we were superby looked after all evening by our waiter Tim.
Starter, main course and dessert were all great. We had the garlic bread, bourbon chicken, beef enchilada and Mississippi mud pie dessert (yum) A great evening, great value for money. Restaurant is also very tastefully decorated for Christmas. Will be back soon!

As I live locally the Bryansburn Inn is my local. I always find the staff friendly and you are not left standing hoping that someone will say "Hello". There is always a member of staff
to greet you when you enter. This is lacking in so many places.
The food is always well presented and the plates are piping hot. One of my pet hates is COLD Plates !!
I also attended a funeral party recently and was very impressed that we were served
Coffee and shortbread when we arrived as the family had gone to the grave for burial
and arrived some time later.
As the weather was so cold everyone was delighted to have a cuppa while waiting for the family to attend.
On speaking to Ian Carmichael the owner he said that serving guests at a funeral event is so
important when they arrive rather then having them hanging around wondering what is going to happen.
Once again well done to the waiting staff and chefs.

I went to the coq and bull for dinner with friends and family. We arrived and were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was inside. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and the rest of the decor was modern contemporary. One member of our party had a rollator, the hotel was accessible and accommodating. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The waitress picked out a beautiful wine for us. We all ordered starters and all of them were delicious! For main meal I ordered the steak, it was cooked to perfection and was one of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time! Everyone throughly enjoyed their meal and we shall definitely be back!
