The food was very photogenic , some dishes were whimsical and delicious , everything was tasty , and the service was mostly great . Our only criticism was that the sommelier said our initial choice of wine was "garage wine" and dissuaded us from ordering it. Ok, but why offer such a choice on the menu ? ! We did take sommelier 's advice and liked the next choice . The five course tasting menu was very tasty and we couldn't imagine even more desserts with other tasting menu

We ate out here during a recent stay in Rovinj, primarily as it was close to our accommodation, and previous Tripadvisor reviews.
We booked a table the day before for a Sunday evening in September, as we didn't know how busy it would be. However, as it was low season the restaurant was only half full.
The atmosphere inside was very pleasant, the tables well set, with a modern look, not typical of other establishments in Croatia.
We were pleasantly surprised at the menu prices, and were expecting them to be higher than they were. Dishes on the menu were typical of what is generally on offer in the area, but all the food was well served and delicious, and was served with warm bread.
A good choice. If we were staying longer in Rovinj we would have returned.

Situated in one of the many charming streets leading to the famous "Grisia" the Balbi provided us with a wide variety of choices that we explored on a regular basis. Always well cooked and always served quickly and with a smile. All this at a very reasonable cost. A tip- have a carafe of the excellent local wine rather than the bottles.

We visited La Grisa in the beautiful village of Bale whilst on holiday in Istria. We sat in a lovely outdoor courtyard with a lovely tree in the middle of it. Our sommelier and waiter, Tomislav, was lovely - welcoming, friendly, professional and very attentive. The food was delicious. I had the Risotto with Adriatic Squid which was incredibly tasty and beautifully presented. My husband had the Istrian beef which was also very tender and tasty . Our ten year old had a simple chicken breast with hand-cooked fries - so good to see a short but sensible choice of children's meals as not everyone's kids have a taste in haute cuisine!
As I work in the wine trade, I was particularly interested in discovering some of the local wines. Tomislav's recommendations were spot on and complimented our food perfectly. After dinner, we wandered around the village which is just beautiful. We wish we'd discovered this place earlier on in our holiday as we would definitely have returned. We found the price very reasonable given the quality of the food and wine as well as the lovely setting and excellent service. Not surprised it's no 1 on Trip Advisor (which is where we heard about it). Highly recommended! La Grisa is also a hotel and is located in the centre of the village opposite a big car park.

We came to Bale for a short visit, arriving from Rovinj. After walking around in the beautiful Bale we got hungry and ended up here. We had four main courses and Deserts, local wine. Very tasty stuff, typical Croatian style. Very big portions. We arrived there at 4pm and wanted to have some lunch. No problem for the friendly staff, the place was full with locals gathering around the fireplace. Cosy place, tasty local food and wine, and very fair prices.

In Istria, homesteads always been the concept of jewel in the crown of sweet and fragrant landscape in which it is located. In a rural environment, homestead nurtures sophistication and finesse, both in its architecture and in the cultivation of their products. On the authentic Istrian stantias you will always feel a healthy relationship with nature, full of admiration and respect. The restaurant Villa Meneghetti pay special attention to our culinary offer, which blended with Meneghetti quality wines and olive oil becomes notch pleasure to remember. For starters delight the palate wide famous Istrian prosciutto with goat cheese, toasted bread and inevitably Meneghetti olive oil. Spruce Blue Istria real challenge for all gourmands - select from our wide range of white and blue fish and various shellfish. Fragrant soups, refreshing salads crab or octopus, delicious fish stews, risottos rich or deliciously prepared grilled fish will ensure a superb culinary experience. Those who recommend meat dishes of Green Istria , gnocchi or pasta in sauce of game or chicken, pork loin and minestrone. For a good mood we offer truffle for which legend has it that contains miraculous properties - we see it as the pinnacle of Istrian cuisine, which since the days of Roman rule inspiration for top gourmands. Another peculiarity of these regions which can be ordered in our restaurant is authentic and Starsky cattle Boskarin prepared boiled, roasted on a spit, cooked stew with pasta, flavored with herbs and vegetables from our garden or marinated in Meneghetti olive oil, are just some of the ways to prepare this unique foods, sprung from the local cuisine of our ancestors
We went here for lunch with our special Croatian friend. I have slightly mixed feelings. The drive to Meneghetti is horrific. It's located down a long dirt track road full of pot holes. We'd had heavy rain earlier that day & some parts were virtually flooded..The complex itself is fantastic. Everything is immaculate & spotlessly clean. The restaurant is very tastefully furnished. The staff were extremely friendly & very efficient. Our starters were very good, especially the Istrian pasta with scallops, excellent. The main course had mixed reactions. I had beef cheeks. Our waiter, who was excellent, explained that the beef had been cooked for 6 hours. It was very tender indeed, but I'm sorry to say it was extremely bland. It seemed to lack any seasoning whatsoever. The ladies both had Deserts which were absolutely amazing. The white wine we had was malvasia, good but not amazing. Overall, I would recommend Meneghetti but if you like your food with some seasoning maybe ask the waiter for their recommendation.

A place to visit during your vacation in Rovinj. Here You can relax with a glass of the best local wines, tapas made only from local ingredients and the best istrian olive oils.
We so enjoyed our dinner at Barba Danilo. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxing, the service superb and every dish perfectly executed. The sea bass carpaccio appetizer was melt in your mouth outstanding and the seafood pasta and duck main courses were perfect. the chocolate mousse with carmelized almonds will long be remembered. If you have a car, this is less than a 10 minute drive from Rovinj and well worth the excursion.

Ate excellent local food here in 2013, but quality has dropped a little, at least as far as the local dish istrian manestra is concerned. Loaded with potatoes, and with corn and beans in trace amounts, it was a severe dissappointment.
The meat platter for two, on the other hand, was quite good and served enough food for four. The service was excellent.

The food was great and reasonably priced but the service we got was really bad. They kept forgetting about us time after time acting like nothing was wrong. Pretty much everything we ordered took few reminders to get. After a while they told us it was because of problems in the kitchen which was such an embarrasing blunt lie. By the end when we asket to take the pizza to go we got it folded in aluminium foil.
Too bad because the food was actually quite good but that was not worth the poor service
