Atlixco (Nahuatl pronunciation: [aːˈt͡ɬiːʃko] ( listen) is a city and a municipality in the Mexican state of Puebla. It is a regional industrial and commercial center but economically it is much better known for its production of ornamental plants and cut flowers. The city was founded early in the colonial period, originally under the jurisdiction of Huejotzingo, but eventually separated to become an independent municipality. The municipality has a number of notable cultural events, the most important of which is the El Huey Atlixcayotl, a modern adaptation of an old indigenous celebration. This event brings anywhere from 800 to 1,500 participants from all over the state of Puebla to create music, dance and other cultural and artistic performances.

The colonial house with it's patio is a great setting for a meal. However, we suffered from a few (hopefully temporary) setbacks - a broken coffee machine, no wireless internet, and no late breakfast (OK this last one is more our fault than theirs). Service was somewhat lackluster, but the food was OK. Almost great. I have my hopes up for the future.

La Perla is located on the southside of the zócalo in Atlixco. It offers both indoor and outdoor dining. I had breakfast there one morning and the service was very slow. The huevos ranchos were good. The next day I had lunch there. I order the fish from Veracruz. Normally, this is a very tasty dish, but I found the fish to be rubbery and the sauce didn't have that much flavor. I would probably only go back there for breakfast. The restaurant didn't offer any salads which was a disappointment as well.

We went to Palmira for a lunch on Sunday. The place has great Gardens and views of the Popocatepetl volcano. I suggest to make a reservation in advance to have a table in the garden, since they are full on weekends.
The restaurant serve buffet and it is good but not extraordinary. The price per person is between 40 to 60 USD.
The place has a very nice saloon for private events. It worth the visit to spend almost the day. They serve Illy coffe which is good.

Don't be fooled by the exterior appearance, Cielito Lindo is a place for fine food. The daily menu, at slightly over $2 US, is definitely within everyone's range, and you may see people of all classes eating here. The food is delicious, creative and well presented. Service is friendly and courteous. Perhaps the appearance could improve, but then again, it is part of the down to earth charm of the place.

You should expect certain delays when going with a large group. But there is a limit to everything. Waiting for a table when tables are clearly visible, watching waiters mill slowly around on a full house, and then forgetting orders makes it impractical to visit.

This is a well hidden place. Not lots of advertisement as the owner/chef prefer mouth to mouth marketing. Whatever you try here is great. Lobster tails with the butter of the house on pasta are just amazing. Same as Ceviche and Crab legs. All flavors are well balanced.
Service on the other hand is just amazing and the place has a good taste being humble. I was impressed of not having a profile for them on tripadvisor. I do not do this often, but I even created this. It is very well deserved for this family working to give the best of flavor and service.

Tecuani offers an interesting "Atlixco expierence." Some of the decor seems exaggerated for tourists, but offerings of pulque, tlatloyos and cecina show attention to having genuine local products. It's comfortable, the service is good and the prices are very reasonable.

Their choices of dessert are superb. Pinyon nut ice-cream is fantastic - if expensive. So are most of the ice cream offerings. The coffee is good, but not spectacular. The food is average. You can sit in the shade of a palapa, contemplating the greenery while your children play in a closed playground, enjoying delicious ice cream, after you have eaten somewhere else.

This restaurant was right on the zocalo, unlike the location that appeared on the link from TA. It offered good local food at great prices. We started with grasshoppers and guacamole. The grasshoppers were good, crunchy and spicy. We then had two of the specials, Pipián Verde and Pipián Rojo. We shared both of them and while the flavors were different, the red more spicy, I liked both equally. It took a very long time to get our bill, over 30 minutes, but we weren't in too much of a hurry. After dinner, we took the stairs next to the restaurant up two levels to a rooftop bar that had a great view of the volcano, Ex-Convento de San Francisco and Capilla Del Cerra De San Miguel. We used Uber to get here from Puebla and when we were ready to leave there were no cars in the area. A hotel staff member organized a taxi for us and for a reasonable $20 US, we returned to our hotel in Puebla.
