A very simple, rural restaurant that sees all types of clientele. The atmosphere is warm and the staff are friendly. The food is amazing! During the week they have a menu of the day that includes the meal, bread and olives and your drink for €7. The meals are of generous portions and one dose feeds two. Strongly suggest the Codfish à Narciso.

The food was great, but our server was just plain contrary. He brought about 20€ worth of appetizers to the table (which you pay for if you accept them in Portugal) So we waived off several of the items and he picked them up in disgust rolling his eyes at us. When we decided what we wanted , he tried to change our orders to things he liked better. And while the food was good, his attitude never changed. He was determined to make us feel bad. It made what could have been a good experience, seem like an endurance test. Just for that, I will not return.

It is traditional not fancy but delicious very small family rerstaurant and probably the best price quality ratio in the world. I visited it two years ago during the European Shooting Championship . This year it was for the world and with fellow shooters from all countries, we went there every day.
I recommend the Grilled Sardines (Thank good they are grilled nearby in an outdorr kitchen !), which should be eaten the Portuguese way (with the hands no forks). Also the huge quantity of very small snails, Drink the local wine (Quinta do Lagar Novo from Tiago Carvalho that i met there).
Everything is very good and the owner's family are absolutely fantastic and helpful for the tourists. Also you will meet and certainly fraternised with the locals, which are enthusiastic about this real bistro.
Incredible price quality /atio that I think nobody can beat. Apetizer,+5 huge grilled sardines, one bottle of wine, + humungus quantity of snails+ desert and local Brandy offered by the owner:22€!!!
For real food enthousiast sand people enjoying the Portuguese culture, it is a must,!

Taberna do Areal is a cosy restaurant that you must visit in Portugal. The ambiance is fabulous. Traditional dishes like "torricado de bacalao" and "bife at Taberna" are simple delicious!! "ovos rotos" are one of my favourite tapas but at Taberna it's much better! And we had 2 portuguese wines (one white and one red) that are forever on our memory. Lagar Novo and Chocapalha are the winemakers I´ve registred on my moleskin. Thank you Pedro & Joanna for your hospitality and never loose your way of serving customers as friends.

Specialised in grilled and portuguese food, Restaurante Gamboa is located in Carregado, a town near Lisbon. In this restaurant you find tasty food, a friendly environment and a great service. It's excellent to a business lunch, a family meal or a special occasion.
Calm and personal, great small appetizers, good food and generous portions and great coffee. There is a menu in English. Not by the Big Road, but easy enough to find - and cool in hot days. We will be back.

I had the pleasure of inviting friends to an evening of the tasting menu and was not disappointed. Every detail was excellent, from the service to the interesting dishes which were beautifully presented and the choice of wines. Despite being the busiest time of year, the wait was reasonable and I would most certainly repeat the experience.
My complements to the Chef, a very charming lady, and to the team who provided us with attentive but discreet service and a night to remember. Thank you!

The restaurant has a great decor. Very pleasant for couples or a bigger group. Nice view and nice concept for a small town like Alenquer.
Good starters, filo pastry stuffed with goat cheese and the foie gras.
Also the Grouper was good. Pity for the duck leg confit with risotto ....a little salty.
Our opinion is that the menu is overpriced and doesn't match the quality. Expecting much, much better from this restaurant.

A very cozy ambience and an huge variety of starters.
Octopus salad, fish eggs salad, and at least 10 more starters are always available.
Is is mandatory to have the "Cabrito no forno", "Pato no forno", "feijoadas", and any other typical dishes, made with heart and passion by the soul of the house: João, the owner and the "Chef".
And you must try the desserts by yourselves...
The service is very kind and polite.

Having been there a few years ago we decided to try again the Pateo Velho in Atalaia (Alenquer) and again we had a good lunch.
Arriving at 12h30 the place was empty and cold but the waiter that eventually showed up was very friendly. Luckily 15 minutes later another party took a table, so we weren´t alone anymore. Also the place warmed up a bit. The decoration of the restaurant is clean and OK but lacks a bit of charm.
We took some classical entradas to start which were OK.
As main course my wife took the squid and she was delighted with it. Only remark she had was that she didn´t need both the rice and the French fries with it, one would do and preferably the rice.
I took the “pernil de porco”(lower part of a pig’s leg)) with ratatouille which was also well prepared although with a bit much fat.
The wine was a red house wine from a local vineyard. It went well with the pernil, less with the squid.
As dessert I took a tasteful mousse of manga.
The bill amounted to 20€ per person which is a decent price for a decent meal.
