quite a small restaurant but obviously popular and recommended by local hotels. Good service with an English translation on a menu board. Food was quite original, but good quality and cooked well. Boudin Noir (Black pudding) Tarte Tatin with "Norman" apples was a starter that worked well. They offered a good selection of mains including sea bass or lamb as part of the two course formule at 18.90 euros. All good flavours and well presented.
Pleasant with quick service. Wine by the carafe and water were a bit more than expected, but ok.

Wanted something close to hotel and seemed quite busy. Not particularly cheap, but food pretty good. I had a salad which was really good and my husband said his steak was excellent. You do get quite a bit of road noise but not unbearable.

We all had the mid range menu and everything was just right - we all had different choices as well. We left feeling full up and slightly tipsy.

Whilst driving south we stopped at Alencon for an over night stop, I'd already looked it up. The food was good, although staff a little under pressure. However with limited French versus limited English we faired well. We wanted Cidre, but he was out, un deterred by this he must have ask another restaurant as in minutes we had a chilled bottle of Normandy's best.
Recommend for a practical tasty meal.

On a stop over from the South West of France to the UK we dined at the Rive Droite by pure chance. We were delighted with the service and the food and the general surroundings of the restaurant. The two young waitresses not only looked after us very well but also spoke very good English.
The food was excellent, in particular the crab moose, with one minor exception of the cake served with the coffee, which was only average. The wine list was extensive but I thought a little expensive except for the local wines.

Having lived in France, the one thing I miss in the UK is a decent couscous restaurant. Having stopped in Alencon for the night, decided to try the L'Oriental. Wasn't disappointed. Great food, reasonably priced. Will definitely go there the next time I happen to be in Alencon.

I was travelling back to the UK from the South West of France and was looking for an interesting restaurant before staying overnight in Alencon. I choose this establishment following a review of the Trip Advisor website and was not disappointed. The Gallettes were well cooked and presented, with a good selection of fillings. Likewise the Deserts were very good. In particular I liked the sorbets which are from a local supplier.
I look forward to returning next year.

Our host at our Chambre d'Hote recommended Le Bistrot. We received a lovely welcome and the food was excellent. Many locals were enjoying themselves which was a good sign to us.

Pleasant service and clearly a popular place. It was mostly reserved for the evening and we managed to get one of the only free tables. We had a very good terrine, duck confit and entrecôte. All yummy enough for us to want a pud as well. Good wine and nice atmosphere.

This was our first introduction to Afghan cuisine and it was delicious beyond words. For starters we had the chefs salad which had aming other things, eggs, parmezan cheese and little balls of mozzarella, a chicken skewer and a cheese with herbs wrapped in filo pastry.
For our main my husband had lamb cutlet and I had Kabilli of lamb. The flavours were supurb, meat was super tender and the vegetable delicous.
Try this restaurant, you won't be disappointed.
