In Mád, in the heart of Tokaj-Hegyalja, life is about wines in our restaurant. Our dishes are inspired by wines, and terroir is expressed not only in wines but also in raw materials. Our Mission is to arouse love and respect for top quality white wines of Tokaj-Hegyalja. We plan our programs in such a way that they provide a lifetime experience for each visitor of ours.
This is a great place to taste the region: high cuisine coupled with the famous Tokaji vines. The staff is truly competent, one can rely on their recommendations. The menu is somewhat longer than you would expect from similar restaurants, hence the importance of the waiters. We were more impressed by the main courses than that of the appetizers. The desserts were so promising that we decided to try all three of them - proved to be a great decision!

It is a little strange that the best food of Tokaj is available in a kiosque buffet. But for sure fish is fresh and better prepared here than in the unfriendly Bonchidai Csárda. We have eaten here several times during our one week stay and were satisfied each time.

After visiting Tokaj we were looking for some wineries in Tarcal. We couldn´t find any open cellar and we knoked on Szedmak winery, by chance. Shortly - we spent there long time with very good wines - especially sweet ones were excelent. Sárga muskotaly (yellow muscat), Zengö and Furmint had very good taste.

We were tempted by the look of this restaurant, but we were dissapointed. Though there were lot of fish in the fisherman's soup it wasn't tasty, and well spiced.
Second meal was large but not so tasty as well.
So if you are looking something tasty, don't eat here.

I had lunch in this restaurant today with my husband and would like to recommend it for other travellers.
This is a typical local restaurant with lots of fish dishes. The furniture is simple with sort of "checkboard" table cover, paper napkin. The service is good and the food - at least what I had - is absolutely great. I recommend to eat fish soup (catfish fish soup), share or order small portion and you wont be disappointed. They have two pages of fish dishes on the menu card..
The restaurant is next to the river Tisza, we could not sit outside due to weather conditions but I believe in summer its a great place to sit on the Terrace and enjoy the view and the nature from there. Please do not expect high level fine cuisine if you are heading in here but go for fish, you will have a huge portion and appreciate the local tastes. Concerning the price level is middle rate, value for money. No need to reserve just pop in. As parking facilities, you can park your car in front - its a pay parking 200 Huf/hour (0,70 euro cent/0,80 dollar cent)

If you are near Tokaj, stop by for a meal. The restaurant is part of a vineyard and offers a great local cuisine that is wonderfully prepared.
The bean soup was hearty and flavorful. The ribs were good-/-Hungarian is different than St. Louis or Kansas City :)

Terrible service. The food was ok, but not worth the aggravation for the service. Not worth the wait for the "famous fish soup". Avoid.

Situated along the road to Mad it overlooks the vineyards. The food is excellent as well as the service. Here they do a slightly modern twist on traditional Hungarian dishes. All dishes were service hot and fresh. Try the pork knuckle or the special fried chicken. Even though they have a modern take on Hungarian food all dishes are recognizable and delicious.

The chairs and benches at the outside tabeles wars no so confortables.
Overall, it was a good experience and for the next time when I travel this reagion, will be my first option for a good meal.

It is not that easy to find coffee shop in this little town. Advised by the Tourist Information Center, we finally found it in the south of the street. It was very busy and apparently met the needs of many tourists in town. Good coffee.
