Crystal clear waters beckon from the south part of this tranquil Caribbean islet, a hundred miles south of Havana and known for its17 miles of stunning white sand beaches, mangrove forests and scuba diving to the black coral reef. The largest of the 300 keys and islets in Los Canarreos Archipelago, waters in the north are much cloudier. Cayo Largo also offers excellent deep sea fishing. Rent a jeep to explore the islet’s few roads and paths or trot across coral sand beaches on horseback.

The hour long walk on the desert beach from Sol Cayo Largo to Paraiso is my vision of paradise. You might meet other people every ten minutes or so, along with eagles, buzzards, pelicans and herons. There are two natural pools near the western end, and then the whitest sandy headland where mantas play and you can find starfish and conches as you bathe in crystal waters.

Taking a boat trip from the marina is nice and once at the beach you will enjoy, the waters are calm..some bring their own food and drinks from hotel to save on money but they offer both there at a cost. Chairs are 2 dollars as well. You will love it, spent the whole day there and even went into the water it was so calm.

We hiked from Villa Iguana down to Punta Mal Tiempo. Pack water, wear a hat and wear sun block. The view is stunning, the walk slightly rugged (some rocks) along the shoreline, but once you reach the point, its incredibly beautiful! We cherish rugged beauty and Robinson Caruso types of Beaches. If you do too, you'll love it. You can also take a taxi from your resort for a couple of CUCs and establish a pick up time if you don't want an additional hike back.

The main attraction is the beach which is very remote and pleasant. There were some interesting creatures behind the bar area (not the staff) and everyone was very helpful. The sunbeds were a bit variable and there was not much shade. We came here by a small boat and not at all sure how everything is delivered to this lovely place.

We visited this hotel during the day in order to stay away from the Villa Marinera. The hotel is very well equipped. All amenities are well kept and the staff is well trained. There is one lady that is exceptional. Her name is Danielys. Not only her customer service skills are well above average she took the time to listen to the Villa Marinera customer concerns and honestly tried to make it better. Daniely should be looked up as a role model for dealing with Canadian tourist . Next visit to Cayo Largo most likely be at the Iberostar HOTEL........ will not recommend the villa Marinera to anyone that wants to have a pleasant time.

I really can't seriously even say that this place is a dive center. On Sunday we visited them and found out that they can't offer any courses for non-qualified divers like my girlfriend. They did offer a try scuba diving dives and promised to meet us at our hotel pool the next day. When the time came we found out that they were actually doing the training in the next hotel but didn't bother to inform us. The next training was on Wednesday and then they actually showed up. After the training we scheduled the dive to Thursday but on Thursday they cancelled the dive. The weather was normal Caribbean weather. I have dived in windy weathers and this was not even close to bad weather. I did remember the instructor mentioning that their second boat is very small and apparently it cannot operate even in mild wind. So after a week my girlfriend didn't get the planned open water course and I got 0 dives to my dive log. Unfortunately this is the only dive center in Cayo Largo and therefore the whole island went from my diving bucket list to "never again" and "why did we go the whole island" list. Easily the worst "dive center" I've seen or heard of.

I get that people like the idea of swimming with dolphins. I do too. But not if it means that they are caged in a small, shallow filthy corner. Garbage from tourists line their holding area, and it just seems like really poor conditions for them.
It's kinda gross, actually.
