De Rijp is a village and former island in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Alkmaar, and lies about 10 km northwest of Purmerend, between the Schermer and the Beemster polders. Before the poldering of the lakes surrounding it, De Rijp was famous for its herring industry. Today it is known for its characteristic rijksmonuments, which include some of the oldest wooden houses of North Holland.

Today we went day tripping to De Rijp ( 30 min drive from AMS). First time ever. It's a truly hidden gem. The village is about time standing still and moving along. Eternal and temporary. I liked! The Dutch Royals also visited, hence there's a lot of orange stuff around as well. Nice to see how history reinventing itself in simple ways. The Town Hall dates form 1630! The village became prosperous through herring and wale fishing and processing. Then fortunes dwindled. Then they rose again in different ways. Such is life.

We rented one of the "fluisterbootjes" at De Gouw. A "fluisterboot" is an electric driven small metal basic boot. The boats are perfect to cross through the World Heritage site De Beemster. Which is a fantastic experience. At de Gouw they provide you with a map of the area, including tips for stops during your trip. You hire the boat for a day, which is sufficient to explore the area. We made tour of 6 hours and enjoyed every minute. Tip: Rent a luxury chair with your boat. These are really comfortable. The boats are well maintained and the people at De Gouw are super friendly.

Absolutely charming ,symphatically restored Dutch whaling village, great to wander around and very photogenic. You must try the coffee shop in town opposite the chuch, Great apple cake ,cherry cake and coffee to die for, brilliant for watching the world go bye.

This old building will catch your attention even if you do not know its importance.
While standing at the other side of the canal, fronting the equally old structure, the church, it urged me to get the picture and made me went near the to this building ask myself why it still stood there until this time and took a special space centrally. I knew later that it's the old City Hall.
The staircases from left and right landing met to the top near the main entrance, was where the officer stood and made announcement to the villagers. or in another occasion, the newlywed will take time to pose for posterity.
Do not miss this spot it is worth a visit. Though it's a bit far from Alkmaar, you will enjoy your time. Besides restaurants are available too.

A Dutch Reformed Church in the village of De Rijp in the municipality of Graft-De Rijp, North Holland province.
This late-Gothic church is where the Christian worship and other religious meetings are held. A church is also called House of prayer, prayer house, God's house or temple.
This was built in the period 1538 to 1529. The village fire of 1654 engulfed the Church largely in flames. The Church was thereafter rebuilt. Many prominent donors made this church interior awesome like the stained glass windows, the pulpit, the baptism garden, the organ and the ship model hanged up high.
Next to the church is the statue of the 17th-century sailor Jan Janszoon Weltevree (in Korea Pak Yon) from De Rij. He was in Korea was captured and brought to the Advisor of the emperor. A copy of this statue is in Seoul (South Korea).

This church is seen along the main thoroughfare of Rechtestraat close to the library of De Rijp. I appreciate history of a place and in here can be seen the treasures in paintings and many more about the village and its people.
Worth the visit. Lovely village. Nice scenery of the polders around.
