SEA U Dive Center is located at the Hora of Folegandros. Its aim is to introduce the island's wonderful sea world to visitors. Even if you have never put a diving mask on, you can explore with us the blue-green sea of our island. Capture beautiful pictures of the Aegean Sea bottom and swim in the crystal-clear sea of Folegandros. SEA U Dive Center is certified by PADI.
We are mid-way through our Greek vacation and while nearly all of it has been thrilling, the half day trip we took on the water at Folegandros is a highlight. It had a delightful pace - not too fast, not too slow, and our guide, Dimitris, was charming, informative, and fun to be with. Dimitris was responsive to my initial snorkel hesitation by giving me a small float to carry at first, and once I got accustomed to the sea, the swims were easy and gratifying. Easy jump-in and buoyant water helped to make that possible!
We made a visit to Georgitis Cave, which is a special experience. When you turn around and face the mouth of the cave opening into the Aegean Sea, the colors are spectacular. It is quite a sight and is a memory I will carry with me for a long time.
Lunch with wine was relaxing, and our conversation about Greek culture in general, as well as life on the various Islands, gave me a lot to think about. During the final leg of the trip, I sat up front on the bow which made for an exciting finish, and left me wondering why I hadn't gotten up there much sooner. It's a safe little boat, Dimitris is a fine skipper, and there is joy to be had!

Nice little beach with plenty of stuff near by. Restaurants shops cafes. The beach itself is quite small but it had very few part-time when we went there...i imagine in high season it must get very crowded. Nice water surrounded by high cliffs. Bus goes there every hour from chora. A word of warning.. everyone takes the 1715 bus. So it gets extremely crowded

The two most recent reviewers give an accurate description of the trip, the itinerary of which can vary depending on the wind and sea-state. The agents are open about this when you book and while, under ideal conditions, a round-tour would be best, they do stress that this might not happen. I suspect that the day of our trip was fairly typical as, with a north-west wind, we went from the port up the east side of the island and then back down as far as Katergo.
So, the itinerary was unremarkable (we saw the same stretch of coat twice) though the scenery is of course lovely; and the boat is crowded - not dangerously so, just, to my mind, uncomfortably, and I would probably rather have paid 50 euros a head instead of 30 and had more space. Having said that, the crew managed to produce a surprisingly decent lunch which was very efficiently plated to avoid the free-for-all of a buffet. Swimming off a boat in the Cyclades is always fantastic, and there was plenty of opportunity for that, particularly in the wonderful water off Katergo beach.
If you do want to go on the trip, book a few days in advance, as the boat routinely operates at capacity in July and August.

A very nice bar with very nice atmospherical music at an excellent apot, very cool. One must definitely taste the excellent rakomelo, which is boiled raki (a digesting drink originated from Crete) with honey. The service is good and the waitress very pleasant

browsing the website of sottovento i found useful information about the island of Folegandros, the Beaches, the restaurant, plus a note about island tour by boat 3 times a week. I sent an email and reserved the island tour. the day before I went to their office in Chora to pay the tour. 28 euro per person from 11am till 5pm including lunch.
Based on the weather condition the tour touches some Beaches on the island.
during our stay, meltemi wind allowed us to visit only the west and south side of the island.
We went at 10.45 at the port and embarked on the caique Stella Express II. Remember to bring with you sun protection, a lot of water and nozzles and goggles to enjoy the swims.
the caique is big enough for around 20-25 persons. we started the navigation and touched several Beaches. after arriving to every beach, the captain communicated us for how long we would have stopped and was used to ring a siren to call us back on board when it was time to leave.
We touched first the beach of Ambeli (little beach made of stones at north west) with a steep rocky wall, not easy to reach by foot.
After that we went to Livadaki, probably the best beach I've been in Folè, bigger than Ambeli, made of stones, and secluded in a small ansa, which made it very pleasant to swim in even if it was very windy...
Later we went to a little bay within Livadaki and Ag.Nikolaos not even mentioned on the maps. It is slightly bigger than our caique, with transparent blue sea and huge steep stones... In this bay the staff on board prepared for us a delicious light lunch with local products ( tomatoes, tyropita, olives, spinach pie, tsatsiki and fried little balls of saganaki).
After we moved to Ag. Nikolaos for another 45 minutes and then to Katergo beach on the southern part of the island. Much more crowded and big, we went there for the last stop.
We then got offered a glass of ouzo (local liquor) and a typical pastry (fried dough dipped in honey with sesame seeds on top) on our way back to the port where we also stopped for few minutes to see a big cave..
I strongly recommend this experience to everyone travelling to Folè. We spent some days visiting the Beaches by foot or using the little boat connecting the most famous Beaches, but the island tour gives you a complete 360° view of the Beaches and brings you in some secluded bays reachable only by sea assuring you an amazing experience ... perfect if you like swimming and scuba diving...
