Caulfield Park

really good park providing different areas, Playgrounds, sports fields, good dog walking areas as well as running around the perimeter. The lake provides some interest for the park, and there are some lovely trees. I feel that the park could be maintained a bit better, but clearly it is important for the local community and well used.

Caulfield Racecourse

An absolutely perfect raceday on Caulfeld Guineas day. The racecourse was in perfect condition, extremely well presented . The vast majority of people where ideally dressed for the races. Not a “nightclub” dress in sight.
Ladies looked beautiful and the gents where all Suited Up!
Gourmet snacks were available and reasonably priced. This is unlike many international race meetings I have attended.
With four Group 1 races on Guineas day and so many international runners and participants. Guineas Day continues to grow and is now a BOLD date on the international racing calendar.
Congratulations to the MRC and their team on their efforts.

Labassa

From mansion to apartments, Labassa has survived with its Victorian era decoration intact. Labassa is an outstanding Victorian era mansion with opulent architectural features. Originally called ‘Sylliott Hill’, it was renamed ‘Ontario’ in the 1880s reflecting its new owner Alexander William Robertson’s Canadian heritage. Robertson was a founder of the Cobb and Co. coach company that successfully ran mail services throughout Victoria. Renamed Labassa in 1904 it was home to Melbourne’s elite until 1920 when it was divided into flats. The residents included Hollywood’s first Australian silent film star and other colourful bohemians. Labassa is the most lavish of the few surviving nineteenth century mansions

There are 14 places in a ghost tour and I was with a large group of friends so we were most of that group! You are given fake lanterns that don't put out much light for your ghost tour. Moving from room to room the guide tells tales of murder, suicide, ghostly apparitions etc and it is seriously creepy in Labassa in the dark.
Our guide was great, very entertaining and friendly and the tour concluded with champagne, sandwiches and fruit in the dining room (with the lights turned on!).
Overall it was a fun way to see this once grand mansion and a great activities for a group outing.
We are now planning to return to Labassa for a daytime tour to really explore this interesting old building.

The Caulfield Racecourse Reserve is a secret place known to just a few. Access is through the Racecourse (three entry ways) and can be done all days except for race days and major events. Entry is from about 09:45 until sunset (09:30 through Gate 20 near the railway station). The reserve has a large lake, with water birds. It has public toilets, BBQs and some shade. There are walking paths, with dogs encouraged, and outdoor fitness equipment. It is free !

Great museum.I liked the fact that it was at one of the premier racetracks in Australia. But current location is more convenient for tourists. I always visit when spring carnival is on as a tradition.

Monash University Museum of Art

Reviewed By Alys-Schatzi - Melbourne, Australia

MUMA (open Tuesday-Saturday) is on Monash Uni's Caulfield campus, not its bigger and better known campus at Clayfield. It's a public art museum not far from Dandenong Road (highway), but you need to come onto the campus to get to it. I discovered MUMA when I lived not far away and saw an advertisement for an exhibition that took my fancy. The building is contemporary and austere, and you may find there are few other visitors when you're there as it's not readily accessible to impulse browsers. If you want to eat after a visit, there are budget-priced student-oriented eateries nearby.
