Happy cows make yummy cheese. We came here for the fresh contraband unpasteurized cheese. The owners/family here invite you to see the cows and we even got to hang out with a 3 day old little guy. We tasted around 6 cheeses and ended with a cheese flower (de pic). All sort of high quality accompaniments like duck, fois gras, fresh honeys, spices. There was a group that was cycling through and stopped in which seemed like a great idea to see the area since it's so flat. Came away with a fare bit, very inexpensive for organic cheese. If you're visiting Montreal, skip a few old churches and come here.

Hubby and I had two objectives while visiting Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu this week: Celebrate our son's graduation from Garnison military base (CFRLS) and do day trips visiting area chocolate artisans.
Genevieve at the tourism office highly recommended a drive to Au Domaine des Petits Fruits. What a find! Who can resist a mid-morning snack of exquisite fine chocolates?! Handcrafted, top quality products resulting in delightful tastes. Highly recommend the peaceful pastoral drive in the country. Thank you also, Jean-Claude, for recommending the soap store which we visited that afternoon.

My husband and I visited winery Le Mas des Patriotes on the weekend when we were looking to explore outside of Montreal. The winery was only 30 minutes away. The wines were really great tasting and the owners, France and Claude, were amazing hosts for the tasting and gave us a tour of the vineyard. They are French speaking but speak English too. Everything is so pretty there and it was a great escape from the city. The tasting costs $5 and they said we could bring a picnic next time. Planning another visit soon.

The street signs are there, the sign on the door says "Ouvert," but the place is under renovation, and only the boutique is open. Visitors will have to wait until 2016 to see anything!
