We wanted to see the area, but weren't keen on carrying a tent and gear for 6 days. Instead we opted for a cottage on Cape Otway with 4 days of selected walks (drove to a different trailhead each day). It worked much better for us.

You know the view is going to be great on the extremely steep drive to the lookout gate. There is a short steep walk to the grassy lookout over Apollo Bay & the Great Ocean Road. It is situated on farm land & there may be sheep on the track & at the top. Stunning views in all directions, not to be missed. The road up is a great challenge for cyclists!

For a contrast to ocean views, get immersed in the temperate rainforest here. Both directions of the circuit start with a downhill gravel path which most people find easy, but my partner with a bad knee couldn’t manage. At the bottom of the gully, a boardwalk winds through beautiful tree ferns. If it’s a quiet time of day, listen to the forest noises. It’s a great place to do the Japanese art of forest bathing, shinrin-yoku.
The walk doesn’t take as long as stated at the start, but it’s a good place to stretch the legs or get a bit of tranquillity as a break from the Ocean Road traffic. Melba Gully past Lavers Hill is also a good place for a picnic, rainforest and glow worms at night.

We were looking forward to seeing these rock stacks as we have something similar near to where we live. We firstly struggled to find it, but after that we found not much there. We asked the information centre the next day and were told a big king tide had come in a and washed most of the rocks away :(

Majestic mountain ash trees, beautiful tree fern glades and a mountain stream. All this just 7km from Apollo Bay on a good sealed road. Take a picnic lunch or just enjoy the natural wonder of the Otway region rainforest.
