Waihi Beach is a coastal town at the western end of the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand's North Island. It lies 10 kilometres to the east of the town of Waihi, at the foot of the Coromandel Peninsula. The main beach itself extends approximately 10 kilometres to the south with the small settlement of Bowentown at its southern end. The headland at the southern of the beach is on the northern side of the northern (Katikati) entrance to Tauranga Harbour. Waihi Beach had a population of 1773 at the 2006 New Zealand Census but that number skyrockets to 16,000 in the Summer.

This would have to be the most beautiful beach in NZ.
It takes about 30 minutes to walk there from the north end of Waihi Beach and requires only average fitness. The beach has a beautiful flat grassy and shady reserve backdrop; great for picnics and kids to play. Not an ideal swimming beach every day due to its steepness but fantastic for surfies and surf casters and for just walking along.
Those that promote New Chums Beach (don't get me wrong..it's a nice place) as the most beautiful beach in NZ, obviously haven't been here. With nearby Waihi Beach and all it has to offer in shops and cafes, a walk to Orakawa on a fine day makes for a fabulous and unforgettable experience.

This bay has to be one of the most attractive and safe swimming Beaches in the Western Bay of Plenty. Situated at the Bowentown end of the Waihi Beach peninsular. It has great parking, ample shade and great views over the harbour to the Mainland. There are great walks, ideal for kids, paddleboarders etc. A boat ramp and marked lanes for skiing. There are well maintained changing facilities, toilets and showers. An added bonus is the coffee cart.

We are not blessed with co-ordination but Aidan got all 3 of my children upright on a board within an hour. So friendly, so encouraging and a totally memorable experience. They all have the ability to make everyone feel as though they are the most important customer and are genuinely thrilled for you when you succeed. So highly recommended

Safe for a younger family. Lots of kids having fun on bikes. Next door children’s BMX Park popular with the kids too.
Plenty of facilities - trampoline, playground, Adults TV room, kids TV and games room. Large kitchen and dining room.
Was fairly quiet at night too.
And it’s right next to the beach.
We’d definitely make a return visit.
