Vandalorum is a museum of international contemporary art and design located outside Värnamo in Småland in the south of Sweden. The museum was initiated by artists and inaugurated in April of 2011. It is built after an original concept by the Italian world architect Renzo Piano, with inspiration from local building traditions and materials.
The minimalism of Swedish design is very interesting. Vandalorum took us through the history of the country's art and design. The featured exhibit was " Nordic design for Children," and it displayed several toys, furnishings, and other items designed throughout time with the best welfare of children in mind. I loved the huge Stokke chair and table! One thing of note if considering a visit: although it looked large, the museum is easily toured within an hour and a half.

This huge Nature Park with lake, partly marsh and swamp. A few watchtowers, foot-bridges, wooden boards and many kilometres of wooden footpath - it is opportunity to really nice walking :).
Walking route has approx. 10 kilometres or more - don't forget hiking boots and clothes. Don't take bicycles - we did it :(. First two kilometres is forest path but rest of the route is slim wooden footpath - good for walking impossible to ride.
Remember: take same food and drinks.
If Y like Nature - it is proper place to saver the Nature.

We loved the theme park and our children had a lot of fun. The food was not the best however I would recommend the Mexican part. Still not that good but it's better than the rest. The Western show was nice and the children got to meet the actors after the show which was really nice. If you go there with small children you kind of have to include to spend a few Euros on toy-guns for the children... it's kind of expected ;)

My hometown Värnamo in Småland provides a number of interesting sights. The open air museum Apladalen might be the most famous landmark in Värnamo? It's a nice park with big oak trees, old buildings from the 19th century, a small animal park with domestic animals such as goats, rabbits, horses, pigs, birds etc. Funny for the young people. A very famous couple from Värnamo Per & Kersti stands as statues in the center of the park. There's a big stage, a coffee cottage etc. The old houses are open at certain hours for visits. There you can get a pretty good idea how the people lived 100-200 years ago.

Too late in the season is little more open in Sweden. So unfortunately missed the train. It also appears that it does not run every day. In any case, we have the brochure now. There is a website availale, as in English with much information, but we did not check it on forehand well. Nevertheless, we followed the trail from Ohs (Bruk) to Bor (Norra) via Gimarp (Gimmarp). This is to do with the car and very nice. You will be on unpaved small roads crossing the track several times. Area itself is outstanding and so quiet. From Ohs to Gimarp you can drive to the track almost parallel. From Gimarp is more difficult to follow the trail and last part is even normal paved road. In the town of Bor, you can find near the "real" station Bor the end point of this track. So if you arrive on a faulty day, you can at least get some of it. We are very sorry that we missed this attraction. The price should be offordable and only for adults, but we have could not experience this and other related ones.
We are happy to answer any questions you might have, before and during your trip. And when in Värnamo, come talk to us at one of our InfoPoints around the region. Our ambassadors there know what's going on and can provide you with information and ideas on what not to miss!
