The twisting hairpin turns are exhilarating and provide dramatic views of the Atlas Mountains and valley below. This is where Cadillac filmed its amazing commercial for the 2012 ATS. The scenery is breathtaking with sheer cliffs, Mountains, valley, and river combining to paint a dramatic scene.
The nearby valley provides ample hiking opportunities. We got separated from our guide who had to help another person traveling with us take an easier route. A local small boy, who we had met earlier when we stopped to use his families squat toilet, somehow found us and rescue us and reunited us with our guide. In reality, we were never lost at all but only had to transverse a small muddy farming area for about 100 yards to reach our destination. When all was said and done, it was a great adventure and an authentic experience with both nature and locals.

Trekking tours in the Mountains of south-east Morocco and in the Sahara desert( erg chebbi, erg chegaga ) Bereber lifestyle cultural day tours in Boumalne Dades Valley , roses valley ,gorges todgha and jbel saghru , camping organization
We arrived to Ilias' village in the late afternoon. That is an authentically Berber village, with typical Moroccan mud houses, beautiful Gardens with fruit trees, little canals running through the Gardens for irrigation, children playing, village women washing colorful cotton rugs in the river. The place where you experience a truly Moroccan rural lifestyle, the peace and the beauty of the simple living..
Ilias guest house is beautifully arranged, the rooms are nicely decorated with traditional Moroccan lanterns and cozy cushions. The sitting/ dining area is super comfortable and can be used any time by the quests. Ilias cooked a scrumptious meal for us in the evening and it was a real pleasure spending the evening together, chatting and laughing.
I felt that the time passes at different speed here - and it doesn't matter what you do - sip mint tea, meditate, enjoy the views from the roof Terrace or gaze at the stars - these are the precious moments which we often forget to enjoy and which make every day so special.
Next day we went on our 2 day tracking tour through the gorge. The landscape and the views are stunning. Our route has been a bit challenging in some spots due to the water in the gorge. But thanks to Ilias' tracking skills we managed to get through the gorge with no problems. Turning back was not an option ;-) We really appreciated that we had such a skillful guide!
Along the way we stopped for a break, had a healthy Moroccan salad and mint tea and made our way further to the Nomads caves.
On arrival to the caves, we were greeted by the local nomad family living there. They treated us to a fresh baked bread, olive oil and mint tea. Simple and delicious. I felt there so close to the nature and again these are the moments when the time doesn't matter, as long as you have a cup of warming Mint tea, the open sky and a wool blanket :-)
Sleeping in a cave was a really nice experience. Next morning we have a delicious breakfast with fresh bread, fig jam and olive oil and made our way back up the village.
We stayed another night in Ilias guest house and to be honest I'd stay another couple of nights there just to enjoy that lovely place and it's special atmosphere a bit more. I want to thank our host once again for your welcoming nature, your efforts to make us feel at home and your wonderful spirit to take respect in what you do and do it with your heart..
