Impressive monastery that has been in continuous service for over 15 centuries. The highlight is the treasury as the grounds are less impressive than I expected.
Public parking is limited but your entry ticket includes a recorded guide in various languages.

Chateau de Saint-Maurice

On the way to or from Valais, I always like to make a stop at the Castle Saint-Maurice (it is easy to park the car), where during Summer, there is a yearly exhibition: graphic arts, cartoons, paintings, photographs. This year's expo is devoted to nature and landscape, through the eyes of European and Asian artists. Exceptional watercolours, inks and gold-leave works by Eric Alibert, very inspiring photographs of Eisenhawer, as well as some very well selected works of Japanese and Chinese artists, in dialogue with the "Western" works. A moment of peace and inspiration, in a beautiful castle over the Rhone river.

La Grotte aux Fees

We liked the steep walk up and enjoyed a lovely lunch at the top overlooking the castle and vineyards below. My husband ordered the plat de jour and I had the Rosti with an egg and both were very good. The cave and the grotto are magically beautiful and the Fairy Fountain is lovely. Definitely will need a fleece, good walking shoes and the ability to walk up a steep incline (that does have periodic steps)
