In the magnificent milieu, Art museum Gösta shows contemporary art, masters of the Golden age and interesting wood architecture. Also sculpture park and island. Restaurant Gösta at the museum serves pure tastes. Serlachius bus: Tampere - Mänttä - Tampere direct to the museums.
After the visit to the rather strange Gustaf Serlachius Museum the visit to the Gösta Serlachius Museum about 3km away comes as a positive surprise. The museum this time is a pure Art Museum. The permanent exhibition of Finnish masters is in the Manor House of Gösta S. the nephew of Gustaf S. and his successor as head of the Mänttä papermill. What they also had in common was a love for the art of painting, of which they both were great patrons.
In the Manor House can be seen - besides a lovely wine cellar - works by the Crème de la Crème of Finnish painting: Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Albert Edelfeldt. Hugo Simberg and Helene Schjerfbeck, but there are also other beautiful masterpieces. I especially liked 'The Connoisseurs at the Louvre', by the Finland Swede Gunnar Berndtson, who often worked in Paris.
The recently opened modern extension to the Manor House, a nice piece of architecture in itself by the 'Creative Studio MX_SI' in Barcelona, is reserved for temporary Exhibitions. I felt lucky to get to see one about eminent German painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer.
The restaurant at the museum was very busy, when we visited on a Sunday and we had to queue up to get a free table. Naturally there is a shop on the premises as well. The ticket is valid for both museums in Mänttä.

Gustaf is a storytelling museum in the former head office of a paper combine. Impressive main exhibition Paper Devil takes you through a route of eight dramatized scenes depicting the colourful life of a paper industry pioneer, Gustaf Adolf Serlachius. Serlachius bus: Tampere - Mänttä - Tampere direct to the museums.
If you are looking for culture and fine arts, then Serlachius Museum is an excellent place to visit. There is a new section added to the museum which houses more recent works. If you buy the Mantta ticket, then you can visit three of four of the museums located in the different parts of the city conveniently transported by a small bus.
