Cumnock (Cumnag in Gaelic) is a town in East Ayrshire, Scotland. The town sits at the confluence of the Glaisnock Water and the Lugar Water. There are three neighbouring housing projects which lie just outside the town boundaries, Craigens, Logan and Netherthird, with the former ironworks settlement of Lugar also just outside the town, contributing to a population of around 13,000 in the immediate locale. A new housing development, Knockroon, was granted planning permission on 9 December 2009 by East Ayrshire Council.

My husband and I went for a two hour experience with the Clydesdale horses, Lucky and Randolph. Beautiful, graceful creatures!
This was a present from my husband which was completely different and it exceeded all my expectations.
When we arrived at the farm we were greeted with a warm welcome from all the staff. We were then introduced to all the horses and the donkeys, supplying lots of carrots
We hadn’t been on horses for years and were quite nervous as the horses are huge!
Sonya and Beth were considerate and lovely to be around, nothing was too much bother, Lucky and Randolph were gracious and also patient with novice customers on their back.
We had a beautiful autumn day, did a bit of grooming first then went for a trek around the Wood road area, thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing.
Thank you to all at Blackstone for providing a truly memorable day for my husband and I, we won’t forget it and Sonya and Beth were kind enough to take pics along the way
If you are looking for a gift that is quite different, then visit Blackstone’s website, you won’t be disappointed.

Reading the reviews I can see there is a problem in securing tours of the house. I must admit I failed to read the website in advance which stated that in the winter months there were no tours on weekdays, so we were disappointed to find that we wouldn't get a tour on the day we visited. But we loved our walk round the wonderful Gardens, and then - thanks to the helpful Helen at the Lodge - we were able to arrange a (expensive) private house tour after all. So glad we did. Our very knowledgeable guide (Karen) never rushed us, answered all our questions, and clearly is very properly proud of the house and the whole project.

The old pit head 'A' Frame is a landmark for miles around and I always thought that nothing else was here however it has a large number of information boards, a cycle track, children's play area and woodland walks with maps to guide you. The car park is well signposted just off the locally famous Barony Road.
The 'A' Frame is the only one of its type surviving and the site is also home to an annual music festival with four stages and around 15 hours of continuous music.

The Baird contains displays about Cumnock's past industrial heritage, including coal mining and Cumnock motto ware pottery, which predated the similar items produced in south west England & was once a thriving industry in Cumnock. One room is devoted to James Keir Hardie, the founder of the Independent Labour Party, a local hero. Unfortunately, like many similar institutions, the Baird is a victim of the squeeze on local authority funding and is only open Thursday – Saturday from 11.00am – 5.00pm, but 'Willie', who looks after the building will give you a warm welcome & do all he can to make your visit enjoyable. As we were the only visitors, we had his complete undivided attention, which was very welcome. Such a shame that this hidden gem is little known - it wasn't on Tripadvisor's list of attractions around Cumnock, so this is the first review!
