Arrived at the South Entrance, plenty of lots for car parking. Was told that there actually 2 entrances/exits which are about half hour journey by minibus. If you go in by south and complete the route, you will come out by the north entrance. The free minibus shuttles between the 2 points at intervals of 30-45mins. Entrance fee is 125RMB as it was peak season.
We took a 2 hour's leisurely walk with lots of off the track walks,...to reach the south cable car station, paid 100RMB for the 2 way cable car ride. Ride up to the top of 1 mountain range took approx 10-15mins. Once we are up there, we are treated to a nice scenic view of the mountain ranges and distanced Xianju population settlement. From this south station, the 2-3 hours' trek is great as the walkways has perfect paths for kids or old folks to walk,.... sometimes climbing stairs, and sometimes stopping at the many viewpoints to take in the beautiful mountain scenery. There are plenty of rest points with proper benches & even cool spring water taps along the trek. There are also a few stop points where food & drinks are available, but 2-3 times the average cost. Please take note that certain parts of the path & stairs are quite narrow, so beware when it gets crowded with other hikers. When you arrived at a suspension bridge across 2 Mountains, take in the views and enjoy. This part is also one of the most scenic along the way.
The bridge also marks the arrival at the top north station for our cable car journey down to north station. The walk down to the entrance takes about another hour or so, and you can even walk directly next to a waterfall on the way down. Once you reaches the carpark, you can wait for the free shuttle bus to go back to the other entrance ( Vice verse for people who starts the climb from here ) Overall, I would recommend this as I truly enjoyed my day out here.

Xianju means "the whereabouts of the immortals" in Chinese. Imagine walking on a scenic trail of well designed path for easy ups and downs. For 2 and half hours, you are, at times, getting immersed in natural tree lined surroundings, and then rising to the edge of steep cliffs hanging high in the air overlooking amazing wonders of magnificent rocks and interlaced mountain tops.
Come breeze the fresh air of this pristine place of the immortals.

Leaving from Shanghai on a Friday after work, I set up with a few friends towards this top hiking spot.
I heard before going that it was like the Shangri La of the East, and I've been to Shangri La myself so my expectations where pretty high. But nonetheless as soon as we started the trail on the next morning I had my mouth wide open with the beauty of the morning myst slipping off the cliffs of amazing shapes, a landscape that will remain in my memories of China, a place that touch my soul and did my every step a pure pleasure.
Once arrived at the inner valley we were welcomed by a warm little village, out of 800 years of horseman history reveal upon our astonished eyes...
I slept on a bed made by the grandfather of my host more than 70 years ago. And with his little son, now aged of 65 years we set up on a second hike to see the impressive White Holy Dragon Waterfall, almost 40 m of a thin and continious veil of water jumping over a polished cliff. Amazing!
And all this was made possible out of a small local agency in Shanghai named: YEJO TRAVEL
which organized the transport, guides, food and accommodation for a small mix up group.
About the food I have to say that it was very much of my taste, as I don't like lots of oil. They prepared abundant vegetables grown on the fields nearby, home made tofu, local chicken and pork, arosed with home made lanmei jiu, a cranberry spirit. And we finish the day on a camp fire to warm the cold of the night.
Only down was the weather that was rainy all over the weekend, but as I had prepared rain coat, a bag protection and dry cloths to change. The fog and the clouds made the trip even more magic.
If you ever have the chance, get out of the city to the dusky paths, green horizons are real happiness!!

Danzhu Virgin Forest scenic area got revealed through the word of mouth of backpackers. It has beautiful Mountains, The view is so great while the bus driving along the curly mountain road..sometimes felt scared while looking down through the window, sometime you shocked by those amazing view in front of you.
The highlight is the best place for swimming here。Three natural ponds near together, like amusement park, you can sliding down from the upper pond or jump down from the rock. It is even hardly disturbed by other travelers during the swimming. That's why we had great fun over there.
It's also good for families traveling here. as the creek in front of the hostel is purely clear. you can play ball game or boat rafting or BBQ nearby the creek. It's all worth it to go for the weekend even it might takes 5 hours by bus or 3.5 hrs by car from Shanghai.

The history of this place is that it was a lively trade town that dried up after the trade route it served closed. The visuals are pretty dreary - grey and old. I understand that the interesting part of the town burned down some time ago.
I visited during lull season though, so there were no Performances, which could have made the town more interesting and lively.
