Winterthur (/ˈvɪntərtʊər/, German pronunciation: [ˈvɪntɐtuːɐ̯]; French: Winterthour) is a city in the canton of Zürich in northern Switzerland. It has the country's sixth-largest population, estimated at over 108,000 people, and the ninth largest agglomeration with about 138,000 inhabitants. Today Winterthur is a service and high-tech industry centre, but many people make use of its proximity to Zürich, which lies approximately 30 kilometres (19 mi) to the south-west, and only 22 minutes by train.

Get carried away in this amazing world of science. The interactive exhibits at Technorama invite you to touch, to try, to play and to understand - a true feast for all your senses. Switzerland's only Science Center will leave you mesmerized, no matter how old you are and no matter how much you know (or don't know) about science, art and technology.
Should your kids - or yourself, for that matter- be interested in science and scientific experiments in the fields of mechanics, optics, and more, then this is the place to visit in Switzerland. The place is hugely informative and enjoyable for all ages.
In addition, there are special educational Performances going on every day - such as the one about electricity and lightning, which we attended.

If any, Oskar Reinhart Sammlung "On Romerholz" is a reason enough to visit Winterthur. In the close outskirts of the city (free parking), the Villa hosts an impressive private collection with a number of masterpieces from European painters and sculptors. Gardens are also nice. If there were more information on each paintning, it would really be perfect!

All my visitors get dragged out to Kyburg because it's an interesting, genuine lesson in history with gorgeous views of the outlaying countryside. Visitors can reach the castle by foot starting from the Toss River with a gruelling walk up hundreds of stairs, or by bus/car to the village of Kyburg. The impressive collection of artefacts is both fascinating and large with the torture chamber and it's iron maiden a nice bonus for those inclined. During August, the castle hosts a classical music concert series which is a spectacular experience for both ears and eyes under the stars in Kyburg's courtyard.

This museum features various works by Swiss, Austrian and German artists.
The Oskar-Reinhart Foundation Museum is centrally located in the downtown district. There are two floors of exhibit space including stunning and superior quality paintings some dated from the 17-1800’s.
Also, running through January 2016, is a separate exhibit of special holdings of Christoph Blocher, which I did not view. There is a separate, additional charge for the Blocher exhibit of 20CHF or 15 CHF with the museum pass. Behind the museum is a small park with lots of benches, trees and a small garden.

Fotomuseum Winterthur is dedicated to photography as art form and document, and as a representation of reality. Fotomuseum Winterthur is on the one hand an art gallery for photography by contemporary photographers and artists (with Exhibitions by Lewis Baltz, William Eggleston, Nan Goldin, Andreas Gursky, Roni Horn, Boris Mikhailov). On the other, the Fotomuseum Winterthur is also a traditional museum for works by 19th and 20th century masters (with Exhibitions by Karl Blossfeldt, Bill Brandt, Dorothea Lange, Lisette Model, Albert Renger-Patzsch, August Sander, Charles Sheeler, Edward Weston, Weegee and others). And finally, it is a cultural-historical, sociological museum of applied photography in the fields of industry, architecture, fashion, etc. (with Exhibitions on police photography, industrial photography, dam-construction photography, medical photography etc.). These three orientations form the basis of the museum's exhibition program and accompanying publications and events.
Fantastic exhibition of album covers - the things we had when records were on vinyl and not CD. "Total Records"is on until May 2016. For those over 45 will be a nostalgic look at covers of yesteryear and you will learn things you did not know
As time goes by. A wonderful photo portrait history by Barbara Davatz. She photographed couples from 1982 to 2014, recording their ageing, the changing partners and kids who are now adults. Insightful.
And the place has a super car for break between exhibits.

Even on a cloudy cold day our three and five year olds loved the playground, hunting for wolves, watching the buffalo and wild pigs and all for free. And then you can eat well in a really welcoming atmosphere for families, small children or retired couples as we observed. And despite what others have written here, families with young kids are made to feel very welcome with high chairs and a choice of suitable menus available - they just ask you to leave the pushchairs outside for space reasons. We grandparents ate well on fresh, hot local dishes with very inexpensive open wines to choose from. So we were all content and the kids want to go back again next week, so that proves it!

Well situated, not so crowded and services around. Nice the whole year, but specially on Spring and Summer.

Quite a nice museum for a small town like Winterthur. I saw the Veuillard exhibition lately and found the museum worthy for a second visit. There are some materpieces and the size of the museum is pleasant, not too big, not too small. A nice cafe is integrated into the museum, even though the quality of food needs some improvement but the ambiance is pleasant. I like the lighting of the new building.

the "garden city" of Winterhur and the medevial town lie right in front of you. I live near by and like to enjoy the peaceful place up here once in a while. And the good restaurant next to it with a large Terrace, overlooking the town

The NaturMuseum is in a separate wing of the KunstMuseum with a separate entry required. Spread over two levels, there are various educational videos, hands on experiments, rooms/workshops, gift shop, sample animals, fossils and marine life. Also, make sure to check out the lower level area that has the example of a ship at sea full of sound, articles and the room even shifts from side to side.
There are a lot of items here for kids to enjoy and learn about animals in their environment..
