Take your camel to bed at this oasis town in southwestern Tunisia, home to a staggering 200,000 palm trees. Long prosperous due to its setting on the Sahara-crossing camel caravan routes, Tozeur is known for its quality Deglet Nour dates, its beige brick architecture, and its 14th-century medina (Ouled El Hwadef), where the fascinating Dar Chariet Museum houses many early artifacts, including jewelry and ceramics. Tozeur also served as a Star Wars movie series backdrop.

This was my first visit to a salt lake. It is the largest salt pan of the Sahara Desert with a surface area of 5,000-7,000 km2. During the summer Chott el Djerid is almost entirely dried up and can be crossed by foot or car, but doing so is considered very dangerous as the salt crust can break. Chott el Djerid gained its world recognition when it was used as a filming location in the Star Wars series (here in the picture the Lars Homestead set from Star Wars)

Tamerza is another place that you should not miss while traveling south of Tunisia. The spectacular effects of dead and living nature make the area a gem for visitors.Tamerza is the largest mountain oasis of Tunisia, has two Waterfalls, gorges and an old town , now abandoned.Near the Waterfalls need to take of the sandals and wet feet in the cool, refreshing water. This was so beautiful. The canyon is spectacular and worth the effort to walk through the canyon and around all the palm trees.

The place is located in Ong Jemel and has a great scenery around, it's exactly as it is shown in the movie. Caveat are the stalls selling all sort of things, they should be located outside the Star Wars scene.

I paid extra cost for this attraction because it was not included in my package tour. According to my tour-leader’s information, this canyon is included in “the mountain oasis of Chebika” instead. This attraction required certain level (supposed to be: beginner stage) of hill climbing that may be a problem for the kids or the elderly.

Tozeur has great charm... so while you are certain to see a typical Tunisian medina, you can experience much more by immersing yourself and using your imagination. Since it's significantly smaller than larger cities, this medina is friendlier and more comfortable when getting lost within its corridors. It also contains a museum... and if you can find a shop that allows you to go upstairs for a rooftop view, you can imagine Spielberg and his crew taking down the various modern TV antennas to get his Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark shots of Old Cairo here. You just must use your imagination for this.

Our idea of an oasis was from black and white films and we were not sure ho desert tribes survived the...desert.
Until we visited Tozeur and....the Eden Palm......................crikey what a learning curve.
Everyone must go.
A HUGE garden of eden in the desert burgeoning with fruits and vegetables.
NOW we understand what an oasis is.!!!, not a few tree's and some water but Gardens of eden.
Wow what a surprise.

We ceme in the evening jjust for a drink - so I didnt know about museum at all. But setting among date palm trees was nice. We ordered some mojitos - but we got a sweet green drink, which remined more to a nonalcoholic drink.... No lime, no mint, I a not sure about the rum....And the prices are just too high, even if you get what you order...

This antique train makes a daily trip up into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.
The Lézard Rouge (Red Lezard) is a small nice train which was used by the beys (Ottoman governors) in the late 19th century. This train does a two-hour trip in the Mountains of Selja south east Tunisia. You can enjoy beautiful natural sightseeigns on a nice mixture of green palms, yellow-red rocks, blue water and shining suns. Two stop for photos, you will be amazed and feel yourself as if in a Western or just like Phileas fogg in Jules Vernes "Around the world in 80 days". When you are visiting south Tunisia, this is a must.

Nice array of artifacts, costumes, and views of what a home in the city looked like back in the 60s. Could use more information and descriptions of what you're looking at. Very minimal info in English.

Sahara Lounge
Less lounging more flying foxing. An adventure park in Tozeur. Zip wires in the palm trees. Climbing walls, and paint balling. What more could you ask for? Oh yes, a children’s play area and a chilled out lounge. Oh, there you go, there’s the lounge bit. Well run but quite an expensive attraction if you don't utterly enjoy the whole adventure thing.
