This Cathedral is absolutely one of the top attractions of the city, the church itself is majestic built on the 20s' and after few years it has been expanded by the behest of Don Orione which nowaday became Saint, with the addition of the tower and the Virgin Mary on top of it which reaches a height of about 60 meters.
Surely a brief visit to the church and the remains of the Saint, preserved in a glass case (in my opinion a bit 'macabre), then continue with a visit to the tower. There is a lift which is in operation daily, if I'm not going to get wrong the cost to lift up it's around € 0.50 cents.
Once at the top the view is absolutely stunning, 360-degree panoramic views all over the nearby hills.
In my view, however, all this is a bit 'left in carelessness. We should value more what we have to offer to the tuorists.
Don't forget to visit the crypt underneath

"il Divisionismo" is a museum space created with the purpose of documenting a period of particular significance for Italian art at the turn of the nineteenth century. It evidences the variety and originality of the pictorial language employed not only by the major protagonists of divisionism, but also by others who voiced expressions of a culture that had been long undervalued. The arrangement of the exhibition centers on the fertile dialogue created by the different masters of a bold technique that succeeded in interpreting the demands of a new century. It includes the socially committed artists of the last decade of the nineteenth century, the tentative essays in symbolism, and also the first experiments by the protagonists of the Futurist revolution, for which the divisionist technique provided the language of modernity. To masterpieces such as A May Morning and The Cut Flower by Giuseppe Pellizza, Piazza Caricamento, The Gulf of Genoa, The Strike, Early Morning in the Workshop, and Olive Trees at Albaro by Plinio Nomellini, I remember when I was a Girl, and Incensum Domino! by Angelo Morbelli, The Sower and Last Pastures by Carlo Fornara, Young Girl Selling Fruit by Emilio Longoni, The Hay Harvest by Giovanni Segantini, The Way to the Calvary and The Adoration of the Magi by Gaetano Previati, When the Little Birds Go to Roost by Vittore Grubicy, must be added other works of considerable originality by less famous artists, like Benvenuto Benvenuti, Galileo Chini, Giuseppe Cominetti, Giovanni Battista Crema, Camillo Innocenti, Giorgio Kienerk, Baldassare Longoni, Guglielmo Amedeo Lori, Serafino Macchiati, Cesare Maggi, Giuseppe Mentessi, Matteo Olivero, Angelo Torchi.

Sono stata a visitare il presepe artistico del Mater Dei il giorno dell'Epifania, è stata una gran bella esperienza, è grandissimo, meccanico, con un bel gioco di luci e con ricostruzioni storiche accurate, consiglio vivamente una visita!

This is undoubtedly the most beautiful church of the city, very old, something like XV-XVI century.
Already from the external facade you can denote a bit of Romanesque style. The best part is definitely the inside, you could spend one hour inside to admire this stunning architecture masterpiece. Really very beautiful and perhaps in my personal opinion a bit underestimated. However a visit here is definitely due.

A giant green area nearby the center of town, a little 'difficult to reach for those who are going to reach it by walking, it is positioned on top of a hill, but from anywhere in town you can reach the top of the hill just by walking for about 10 minutes.
The "Castle" is a credit to the citizens, not for the immense and lush green area but to have played in the history of Italy a place of honor.
Walking the streets you can see the remains of a mighty Roman's wall dated back the first century BC built well before the famous Colosseum in Rome. Apart from this there are the remains of the fortification during the Middle Ages hung over the city, fortification later destroyed by Napoleon. Throughout history even Frederick Barbarossa, the Lombards and in the end even some retaliation and the shooting of partisans during WWII. This place is more beautiful than you can imagine. Great for running, a walk or a little' relaxation away from the chaos of the city. In my opinion it's a top attraction of the city.

We were recommended this winery by our B&B and the local restaurant. The owner was very kind and allowed to visit the winery, offered a large selection of local wines for wine testing together wth various local salami. Excellent quality and competitive prices. The wine not to be missed is the "Timorasso", which is found only in this restricted area of SE Piedemont: it is a "rustic" and strong withe wine unusually suitable for longer aging than general white wine.

This is supposedly the Cathedral church of Tortona.
I visited this church recently after many years, I had faint memories of how it was inside. Well, I can say it was really a nice visit, just as the Cathedral of Our Lady Guard along with the Cathedral are the biggest churches in the city. Many works of art housed inside, numerous paintings and frescoes but especially the beautiful marble decor of columns and walls, in short, a magnificent church. On the left side of the Cathedral following the road that come uo to the main square on the side chathedral's wall recently renovated some of the cannonballs that hit this church during a war few centuries back.
However it could be one of the most beautiful attractions of Tortona.

It's been always the symbol of the city of Tortona, this attraction recently opened to the public can be visited inside and up to the top balcony. Open on selected days, there is a sign at the entrance showing the opening times. Excellent panoramic view, I think it is the highest point of Tortona, still higher than the statue of the shrine of the Vergin Mary.
Anyway, the beautiful tower but especially also the surrounding area is well maintained, a pride of the city.
