"Brygga"is the main street in the summer town Tønsberg. The channel through the city has a long history that goes back to before the 1200s. There has been full active for over 1000 of years.
Giving you Norwegian summer ambiance be sure to visit Brygga if you're in Tønsberg. Nightlife can be a bit noisy, but definitely this is a cosy experience nevertheless. Lots of restaurants to choice from, which are ok for a drink or the experience of your visit. But keep in mind that these are not necessarily the best restaurants in Tønsberg.

The present tower on Castle Rock was built in 1888 after the first tower, built by the Tonsberg Maritime Club in 1856, burned to the ground. The original cross from the Church of Our Lady can be seen in the tower. Cato Engers model of the castle Castrum Tunsbergis has been casted in bronze and has it's place close to the tower. Mail dispatched from Castle Rock Tower has its own postmark with a special motif. The tower is 17 m high. There are three royal inscriptions on the tower.
Castle Rock Tower is in a prime position on Slottsfjellet, a small hill in the centre of Tønsberg. We were unable to visit the tower when we were in Tønsberg but we still managed to get a good view of it. It is impressive and was completed in 1888 and dominates the town. It is one of the many sights that the small town has to offer.

Saga Oseberg is an archeological replica of the famous Oseberg Viking Ship. At "Vikingodden" we also build new viking ships. Do you want to be a viking? Building ships or join the viking crew?
The moment was beyond magical, and after some months of planning I got to propose to my (now) fiancé on the most beautiful ship in the world! Captain Ole Harald and the whole crew are very hospitable and helpful. They taught us how To row and many other things about the ship and vikings.
We rowed for a little more than an hour. My father in law, my mother in law, my host mother from Norway, my fiance from Norway, and I rowed under the sun without any problems, because the crew taught us the correct technique.
And, I got my fiance's "yes" to crown the moment.
I recommend a visit to Everybody!

Apningstider: Se hjemmeside.
I think this gallery is awesome in many ways: The building itself is old and really cool, makes a special atmosphere. You can see art from famous and established artist. When I was there, Pushwagner had a exhibition! Very centrally located.

This museum is dedicated to presenting regional history and has a strong focus on Viking and maritime life. Most notably, the museum includes a rare Viking ship (the Klastad, which was built about A.D. 800) and a massive blue whale skeleton.
We spent nearly an hour here learning about Tonsberg. I especially liked the exhibit with the whale skeletons - it is amazing how large they are. The price of admission includes a walk to the top of the the tower.

This festival has everything! Suitable for all ages.
The market is big, and you can find everything: swords, armour, bows, clothes, jewlery, shoes, purses, books, soap, food, cookware, leather, glass, ceramics, fabric and loads more!
most of the vendors dont take card, but the festival provides atm servises.
The entertainment goes on all day, from storytellers, jugglers, music and dancers, in the evening the party is in the great tent with awesome music, good food and drink. You can learn how to shoot with a bow and arrows, fight with a sword and see the old canons be fired. Don't forget to check out the jousting tournament!
I come back here every year. Love it!

Tonsberg's shipping and whaling history. Exhibition of the whaling pioneer Svend Foyn. Shippingcompanies in Vestfold. Ship models. About 400 pictures from the merchant fleet of Tonsberg and the whaling fleet of Vestfold.
The town Tonsberg Southwest from Oslo on the south coast of Norway is the oldest settlement of Norway. There is a 'park' with a castle ruin with very little remnants. We went to the local tourist information office to inquire whether an error was made, but it was confirmed that it was all. Disappointing anyway. The trip from Oslo to Tonsberg was qua scenery not so impressive as expected, as neither was Norway's Southern coastline. However the return leg was taken via Seljord further west and then north to the place called Skieën, which turned out to be a beautiful trip with fantastic natural sceneries and fjord views. Driving through huge pine Forests. Really this effort was making the trip 100% worthwhile. From there we returned to Oslo over bendy roads with campings and vryhutten for the back packers. Mainly wooden houses in different colours without terrain dividers, gave the impression of optimal security and tranquility. Really a fruitful trip in the end. Some of the photos are attached.

The counts nature trail is marked with a pewit symbol. From Honnorbryggen through Nordbyen and the nature reserve Ilene to the bird observation tower = 3,2 km. From there to the deciduous forest at Gullkronene = 1 km. Kjelle to Tomsbakken/Greveskogen = 2,4 km. From there via the Castle Rock to Honnorbryggen = 4 km.
The coastal trail near Tønsberg are plentiful. I like the one Essoskogen near the oil refinery the best. Start at Karlsvika and walk in the forrest to the refinery, the follow the coast back. About 6 kilometers. The one at Husøy is also nice but just about 3 kilometers. Park at the church for this one. There are also nice coastal paths in Nøtterøy at Hella (about 8 kilometers one way) and at Moutmarka in Tjøme near "the worlds End"

A beautiful building to explore and experience. A perfect stop between the bryggen and the tower while exploring the town.

The Bell Museum, Olsen Nauen Bell Foundry Norway's only existing bell foundry which was established in 1844, lies 6 km north of Tonsberg centre. Northern Europe's largest manual carillon was manufactured here. Here at Nauen the 4.000 kilo bell for Oslo Town Hall was cast in 1948, and also in 1944 Norway's largest church bell for the Nidaros Cathedral. For groups, guided tours with commentary and slides, and possible casting in the foundry.
Har vært her flere ganger. Anbefales.
