Fujishiro Seiji Museum

I almost didn't go because it is expensive for a small-ish museum featuring only one artist (1600 yen). However, I am glad I did. It was fascinating to see the variety of effects that can be obtained by one artist working mostly in just one style. Some of the pieces really touched me and I found myself going back to look at a couple of them more than once. My 2 year-old loved the kage-e theater. The museum was small enough that she didn't get bored and there were a lot of families with young kids so I didn't worry too much if she made noise.
The final piece on display in the back of the museum was truly breathtaking.

My wife and I visited this place as part of our 2 weeks holiday in Japan. It was very crowded as it is a very popular tourist attraction and Japan is currently experiencing a tourism boom. They should consider raising the entry prices to try to reduce the number of visitors and raise more income.

This is a big emptied out underground stone quarry. As such, it's not nearly as interesting as natural caves can be, but is still kind of cool in an of itself (and is also, literally cool, at a constant 10º or so).
The place has been used for movies and events, so there are some created terraces etc. in the space that look neat.
I'm struggling to find more to say than "it was a big stone cavern." It's sort of interesting, but not worth making a huge diversion for.

This place was great. The mountain surroundings make nearly every seat amazing. The Gran Tourismo Cafe is descent and offers some free racing simulators.
The Honda Collection Hall is on site and showcases Honda's history in both production and racing.
There are also some attractions for children and a handful of one's for adults. Things like zip lines and go carts for young and old.

Found this amazing place just a short hike down the river from our hotel. The staff here is wonderful in attempting to share the history and often meaning of the beautiful home's many features...where it's important where some windows face and why. We speak only a little Japanese but found this stop a rewarding visit. The grounds are spectacular...especially when framed by the windows from inside the villa.

Nasu Animal Kingdom

Reviewed By YoshiStrat - Nasushiobara, Japan

Unlike a zoo, Animal Kingdom is located on top of mountain and the area is huge. From the entrance there is a cat petting house and dog petting area so if you like animals you are free to enjoy being with dogs and cats. Many shows are also seen in sequence so you don't have to worry about missing one for because of another show.
From top area you will either need to walk a long way or to take a bus to another (huge) zone. There you will see raptor show, sheep show, alpacas, ducks, etc.
You may either take bus back or take ski lift (costs extra).

Ruins of Ashikaga School

Reviewed By Ted C - La Mesa, California

Established in 832 A.D. as a school to study the teachings of Confucius this "university" stayed in operation as a school until 1921. None of the original building remain, however the gates, buildings, dorms. etc. have been reconstructed in wood to match the originals. Well, well worth seeing if you are in the area and have any interest at all in Japanese history, this school is mentioned in every Japanese History and social studies book. The reconstruction is accurate and most delightful.Since these are reconstructions of the original buildings inside access is not available for wheel chairs, but the grounds are flat
Be sure to get the English language guide booklet when you enter and pay the admission fee it is excellent. One of the best I have found in Japan, probably done by the Ministry of Education if I were to guess.
There is a short 15 minute movie which is worth watching even if you do not speak any Japanese.

The unesco world heritage area of Nikko including the various shrines are well worth a day trip from Tokyo. Nikko is reachable by the Tobu line from Asakusa tobu station with a 2-2.5hr journey.
The shrine is reachable by buses outside the Nikko tobu station, short journey.
Entrance fee to the site including the Cat, and 3 monkeys is 1300jpy. The lady manning the entrance ticket sales is quite rude in fact as I enquired if discounted tickets were available for daytrip passes she brusquely said NO very loudly before shutting the window rudely and proceeded to another window to serve Japanese visitors.
Otherwise the inner yard and the old structure is very well preserved however the restored areas look too shiney and plasticky. On a beautiful day this shrine is quite impressive as one can see the carvings and paintings quite clearly.

We took the ropeway up to the 9th stage of Chausudake without doing much research so I didn't know that it is only a little over a kilometer from the ropeway station to the summit. Once we were up there we thought about hiking up but weren't prepared for the cool temperatures and rain so headed back down. The views are amazing and next time we plan to hike to the top!
