Volcanic Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea provide the cinema-worthy backdrop for Taormina, Sicily's legendary resort town. Twisting medieval streets and a second-century Greek theater add to its romantic air, which inspired the writings of D.H. Lawrence and Truman Capote. Take a cable car to the beach, or walk uphill behind the Church of St. Joseph for panoramic views.

The view of Mount Etna and the sea beyond is absolutely superb at Taormina's 10,000-seat ancient Greek Amphitheater, which was erected in the third century BC and expanded by the Romans.
Walked around this massive Greek theatre. Would have liked to see a performance in it as I am amazed that all these old open air relics are being used again while being restored.

A delightfully charming and moving church to sit for a moment in peace. Plenty of interesting history too.

The most romantic spot in Sicily! The Piazza is surrounded by great restaurants. Entertainment was part of the piazza. When I was there, two Sicilians were playing music on their instruments. Outside one of the restaurants, a piano player was entertaining guests and those passing by. The piazza was the sea and Mt. Etna in the background. Truly a little piece of heaven.

Embark on an extraordinary journey with the most famous arias and duets from the greatest Italian operas. Enjoy music from operas such as Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A.Mozart, La Traviata by G.Verdi, Madame Butterfly, Tosca, and La Bohème by G.Puccini and Elisir d'Amore by G.Donizetti, interpreted by professional singers who have performed in the most important Italian and international Theaters, performed with piano accompaniment. The evening will be held in the Cine Teatro 'San Giorgio' where you will be offered a drink and can take in an extraordinary Panorama view of Taormina
During September we visited the Italian Opera in Taormina and given the fact that tickets were sold at 30 Euros each, we were pleasantly surprised.......
The mix or arias sung were less known but very enjoyable nonetheless as the soprano was excellent. The tenor was 'good' but clearly slightly inexperienced as in our opinion, his vocals are yet to fully develop.
At the interval, we were delighted to find that 'refreshments' (included in the ticket price) we served on a lovely balcony (overlooking the square below) - these included a glass of bubbly!!
An excellent evening had, I can only recommend a visit to Taormina Opera as a great way to spend an evening whilst in town - Enjoy!!

Most of the individual places in Taormina are quite attractive but nothing special in themselves, with the exception of the Greek temple. It is the sum total of all the attractive places that makes Taormina such a fine place to visit. That said the view is very good from the terraces.

Once the private garden of the English noble family, this amazing park is from 1922 public property. Lady Florence Trevelyan designed the park as a typical English garden with species and plants from all over the world. While walking through the peaceful and interesting environment, you can admire the fabulous views.

Anyone looking to tour Taormina should start their journey thru this main street. It cuts straight thru the town and is the best way to get your bearings of Taormina. Filled w/ restaurants, cafes, shops - venture down the small alleyways to right (toward ocean) - then left (into mountain) - to see plenty of other attractions. Use this street as your focal point to go everywhere, meet and tour the sites of town!

After a stroll thru the streets of Taomina our driver made arrangements to stop here for lunch. We sat under a canvas canopy on the street adjacent to the beach. The restaurant is informal and it was nice to sit and relax after all the walking and shopping. I had fresh pasta with mussels and clams The portion was large. The food was delicious and the price was reasonable. My wife ordered the same and we both had a few oohs and ahs.

Taormina is a region that is rich in natural beauty and scenic Beaches, especially Isola Bella that means "the beautiful island."
One of best moments i had in sicily was snorkeling on this beautiful island. There are stairs down to the beach (147 steps). We travelled with our 6 months old son. I advise to the the families who travelled with their babies not to take their strollers. Our son was in his baby wrap which gave us more flexibilty.
