We took a raft down the river that runs through the Pieniny Mountain National Park. And I am so glad we did. Some of the rafts may look rickety but they all seemed to do okay and no one was overly concerned about it. For the most part the river is calm with just a few spots where it is just bit rough but certainly nothing to be worried about. The colorfully dressed boatmen may not speak English but they are certainly eager to point out interesting formations and wildlife along the way. The best part is the views that you get of the gorges and magnificent rock faces all along the way. It is a relaxing way to spend part of the day. If there is one disappointment, it was the lack of vibrancy in the terminus of the river trip. One gets off the boat (I forget the name of the town) but there did not seem to be much for tourists to see or buy. Even the restaurants could use an upgrade. But the memory of the views along the river is what stays with you and you can't help but think this is god's country.

The Homole is a picturesque canyon near village Jaworki, east of Szczawnica. It is a very popular hike in Pieniny Mountains ~ the green path follows the bottom of the canyon along the creek. The path crosses the stream many times with the metal Bridges, and endless stairways keep it up with the steep floor of the canyon. It is less than one hour hike (one way) and expect tons of the others hikers. We thought we start late afternoon (16:00) to beat the crowd but instead met a steady stream of people both ways.
The minus: the water in the canyon creek was clouded, but it was probably because the rain.

Palenica hill in Pieniny Mountains is just south from famous Polish tourist resort of Szczawnica. Palenica became famous in 1991 when a chairlift to the top of the hill was built. It helped to develop Szczawnica as a ski center. The chairlift is a centre of the skiing area with some other devices allowing to swich between two main ski runs plus there's another summit of Szafranówka, which has been included into the ski area now. But the summit of Palenica offers attractions whole year round. The chairlift takes people to the top of the hill even in the summer. The journey is very pictoresque and allowes people to skip the climb on really steep slopes to get to the main ridge of Pieniny and enjoy their much less tiring walks from there. And kid's can enjoy summer gravity slide when up there.

Very nice płace. It is very strange that you can not find in any guid but you can find it on the map. It is on the blue route, direction Przechyba mountain. It is acessible by car. Maybe it is partially artificial but still nice place to take some pictures. You can take a blanket and spent some time on the grass in surronding.

We visited the old Greek-catholic churches near Szczawnica, and the Church Jana Chrzciciela in Jaworki was the greatest example in this category. It is located east of Szczawnica in a last village on the death end road. On the outside the church is not very attractive. However, it has a very unique!!! altar dominated by the old Greek-catholic iconostasis.
The church is opened only twice a week for a service, but in the summer the main door is opened and one could peek inside through the metal gate. The Jaworki's church is quite opposite from a church from a village Szlachtowa nearby with the unique outside shell but a modest inside.

One of five gateways to Pieniński Park Narodowy, this one presents exhibition "Forest ecosystems of Pieniny". There's also a model of this mountain ridge. Pavilion stands on one of the busiest tourist routs in the whole area - Droga Pienińska which goes for miles alongside Dunajec river and connects both parts of this mountains: Polish and Slovakian.

It is a whole purpose to go to Szczawnica to drink one of their famous mineral water. The Spring House/Pijalnia Wod is located on Plac Dietla 1 in the "Dom nad Zdrojami". From the main road "Glowna" turn north onto Zdrojowa street. It is a moderate uphill walk. The original Spring House was built in 1863, however it was burnt to the ground in 2002. In 2008 was rebuilt to its original glory and now serves six local mineral waters for a small fee. On the walls of the Spring House there is a list of all served waters, their chemical consistency, and suggested illnesses they may help for. Good luck.

An obligatory point on the travel map in Pieniny is Szczawnica. The main attraction of the beautiful mountain town is the Palenica(722 m.n.p.m). The cable railway in Szczawnica is a team of 4-person cable car, 3 ski lifts on the Szafranowka glade, a summer gravitational slide and varied ski runs in a beautiful landscape.
fajna sprawa ,na górze piękne widoki widać doskonale Tatry doskonałe miejsce do spędzenia czasu, trzeba

Jedyne takie miejsce.Prowadzi do niego "Most dla Muzyki" im.Nigela Kennedy(który nie tylko daje tu koncerty od czasu do czasu, ale również wpada,żeby posłuchać). Właściciele wspaniali i charyzmatyczni.Muzycy w znakomitej większości wyjątkowi ,często światowej sławy.Atmosfera niepowtarzalna, bardzo kameralna.Proste wnętrze.A wszystko razem MAGIA !
