We come here so my husband can surf...I generally hide under an umbrella. Nice beach, and off season..really relaxing. We usually come in May-June or Oct-Nov. In summer, lots of people are here and the beach is packed with families. If you can come off season, the water won't be warm, but it is pretty. Great for photos..and relaxing. Small children really enjoy digging here in the sand..good place for families. Not huge waves, but there are always surfers here..hoping.. and Surfing the small waves. Nice sandy beach..a restroom is available..and some sort of showers. Bring food and drinks though.. maybe only in summer you can buy something to eat. Off season, we carry our own. One of the nicer Beaches in my opinion.

Truly one of the Mysterious place of mother nature. Ryugu Sea Cave has its own mystery from its location to the view from in side and above. It has very easy access as it is situated by the road. you just have to climb down the stairs. ( just two mins and not that steep or deep) Once you climbed down all you get to see is whole where you can see the serenity of blue ocean. It is very pristine and you would imagine what a marvel this can be. When you look up all you can see is the blue sky surrounded by trees. When u climb up you can see the heart shaped cave from top.
Highly recommended to visit also you can see the sand ski banks too. enjoy!
You can take the bus from Shimoda station which bounds to Toji!
or else Taxi for 4ppl will be 4000 ( cheaper than the bus n easy)
or Drive via Route 136 and turn left at the traffic sign of “Toji Iriguchi”, a “Ryugu-Kutsu” sign can be seen before reaching the Traffic sign of “Sandbank”.

A very nice bustling beach with clear waters and white sands. The waves are kind of strong the whole day, so it's better use swim ring or other equipment. Parasols and beach chairs price is different up the hill from the beach and on the beach. There is no loud music at the beach, so families with kids can rest here too. There are many local bars around with fast food and drinks. Water sports are also offered by the people who sell them walking around the beach.

A ride up-and-down every 15 minutes. The mountain top has an observation platform, a souvenir shop and nicely landscaped path with a lot of steps requiring hiking up and down, around the top. Nice views of the town, harbor and valley. Best bargain, a must-do activity in Izukyu-Shimoda.

Shimoda Floating Aquarium has dolphins living in a net separated ocean bay, sea lions, sea otters, wonderful tanks of jelly fish and fish, and a large tank with an amazing array of fish including a school of smaller fish.
The dolphins and sea lions are trained and put on fantastic shows. (Remember I am not a big fan of Aquariums but this is very fun to watch.)
The setting of the aquarium is pleasant. There is not, as in many such sites, a lot of in your face pressure to buy trinkets and treats but there are plenty on hand for you.

My friends and I booked rooms at nearby American House Cozy so we could go to Kisami Ohama anytime we felt like it. Very clean sand (although not white), not pebbly which was great, and the water was also very clean. Fun for splashing around. It wasn't so crowded at the start of August but I imagine it will be later on in the month.
We rented beach parasols as it was extremely hot (1500 yen each). Bring drinks so you don't have to trek back and forth to the vending machines.

It was a pleasant walk in the morning to this park with the blooming of the Narcissus flowers and smell of its sweet fragrance. Some stalls were set up selling the bulbs of this flower, fruits, fish, etc. We have our breakfast in the big stall which serve ramen with seafood.

The park is quite large, with areas for camellia, hydrangea, and local plants. There are also some nice views of the harbor. It's fine for a hike, but it is not special enough to warrant going out of your way to see.

It's a very local beach, but really amazing. Quiet, clear water same as Hawaii, no trush on the sand, nice wind and waves.
We can enjoy peaceful and relaxing holiday.
Public toilets are available. No convenience stores, but a small venders which provide warm showers, cold beer, warm meals are opened during summer vacation.
We also can rent umbrellas, floats, benches, and body boards.
It takes only 5minutes from Shimoda Station by local buses. (You can ask the bus numbers at the bus stops) A few buses go there.
By 5 pm, life savers are there. No worries.
Have a great holiday!
