Mount Tai

A symbol of the Chinese Spirit and the royal object of worship, Mount Tai has many spectacular scenic and historic sites.

Reviewed By Sara S - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Mount Tai is often regarded as the foremost of the Five Great Mountains of China. Although there are stone steps, climbing from the bottom (Red Gate) to the top (Jade Emperor Peak) may be too challenging a task for most tourists. The best strategy is to ride the bus from Red Gate to Mid Heaven Gate, and then climb from there to South Heaven Gate, take a break, and then continue to the peak. What a magnificent experience!

Laoshan Scenic Area

One of China's most celebrated scenic areas, Laoshan presents a Panorama of Mountains, cliffs, Waterfalls and temples.

Reviewed By EELSM - Asia

Taking a 45 min taxi ride, we arrived at this seaside rocky mountain with temples and fishing village. We hiked up 20 minute to the lowest scenic spot and the view was already spectacular. Also visited Hwa Yen temple and it was simple but elegant with nice pine and and bamboos trees everywhere.

Baotu Spring Park

Reviewed By Dominick C - New Orleans, Louisiana

Baotu Springs is definitely a must see in Jinan. Its located in the city center, which makes it an odd yet tranquil contrast to its surroundings. It's comprised of 72 Springs, amongst them are some beautiful courtyards and pavilions as well as some overpriced tea houses - and if you're lucky you may catch some locals practicing two chi or an opera performance. The entrance fee is a mere 40 RMB per person - no credit card or wechat accepted. Closes relatively early (forgot time). Best to avoid weekends.

Confucius Temple

A grand complex of monuments and buildings in the hometown of the great philosopher and educator.

Reviewed By FYL003 - Chicago, Illinois

Most buildings were rebuilt due to fire damages, not original. Some trees were very old, over thousands of years. Stone tablets inscribed with emperors' handwritings were unique. The carved columns with dragon motifs are truly a work of art. The color of the thousand year old wall painting depicting the procession of the emperor was still vivid and colorful. These are the major highlights besides being the location to commemorate Confucius. Highly recommend to hire a guide to go through this site to get the most value out of the visit.

Penglaige

Reviewed By pvcnco - Barrington, Rhode Island

People interested in Buddhist temples would find this attraction interesting, primarily Tao Buddhism.
There is an old lighthouse, which i enjoyed seeing, my first in China.
Lots of old historic carvings of words and poetry, especially one by SuDongPo, where part of the poem was craved neat and poetic while the rest of the stone was large and almost eligible. Said to be Su's work as he got more and more drunk...
The scenery is nice. A mild hike. And definitely worth a visit.

Weihai International Bathing Beach

Reviewed By David B - Doncaster, United Kingdom

I live in Weihai and therefore have visited the beach on multiple occasions. We are very privileged to live so close and to be able to make the most of our natural surroundings. There is plenty to do and the great variety of restaurants makes it easy to spend a whole day here. The sea is great to swim in. The locals tend to come later in the day so if you want a quieter visit aim to come in the morning. It is possible to sleep here overnight in a tent, many do.

Yantai Hill

Get out of the city bustle and enjoy a relaxing (or romantic) walk through the grounds of this beaufitul setting. Keep in mind it is not a mountain, so no real climbing involved, although you can actually climb up the 11-story lighthouse for a wonderful view of the bay (air quality permitting...) and then walk all the way down to the waterfront.

Taishan is the first among China's 5 important Mountains our guide said. Best done with a local. You can climb thousands of steps but we took bus halfway then cable car then walked 777 steps. Good clear day but cold fantastic view & local guide made all the difference. Food at top of cable car & usual hawkers but all very friendly.

Daming Lake

Reviewed By Barry L - New Orleans, Louisiana

This lake is very famous but there's really nothing special about it. The government poured a lot of money into the park and it shows in the sparkling new structures. I'd much prefer more authenticity of the original dilapidated structures than the clean new towers. However, given that the southeast entrance was free, I can't complain too much.
