Ile de Batz

Reviewed By dianewailes - London

Having tried and failed to get on a late morning ferry (the queue was 1 hour+ to get onto the boat) we decided to wait until the following day and catch the 8.00am ferry. No queues and the island was lovely and quiet when we arrived. On the downside, we couldn't find anywhere for breakfast.
Very nice Beaches and a good walk to the lighthouse so we were pleased we'd made the trip. The €9 return fare seemed very reasonable.

How a small village can have a Cathedral like this is amazing. Right in the center of town, it should not be missed. The small chapels should be checked in detail because there is so much interesting history on display.

Ile Callot

The appeal of walking over to Callot is witout doubt largely due to the thrill of walking on a sea-bed path that will be covered again as the tide rises - so make sure you check the tide times before you set off ! No cars are allowed to cross to this island. In july and august there is a free shuttle service at the port, allowing visitors the chance to walk across to Ile Callot.

Came here from Roscoff on our bikes, a nice but slightly hill excursion. We managed to walk across to the island via the causeway and. Quite a nice experience and to see Carantec from the 'sea' as others have said, watch the tide, however it seemed very slow coming in.

Chateau du Taureau

Reviewed By Brian S - Horley, United Kingdom

In June 2014 we took a boat to Château du Taureau, an island fortress while we were staying in Brittany. It is certainly a surprising place situated in the Baie de Morlaix. It has had many different uses in its history, from defending the coast from marauding English attackers, to imprisoning some of the first French Revolutionaries, and was occupied by German forces during WWII. Worth noting is that sadly it is not accessible by wheelchair, as there are steps from the boat to the entrance, and in between all levels of the building.
I do have a short video to give you a better idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niZQtkCnXFw if this is of interest?
The commentary is all in French (as expected), both on the boat and also at the Château, although there are descriptive panels in English alongside the French versions at all points of interest. I'd recommend this for parents (or children) who enjoy being pirates as there is a dressing up box in the building. Hopefully the weather will be as kind to you as it was for us.

Plage de Carantec

Brittany isn't called the granite coast for nothing! The top of the beach is lovely, but if you intend to venture to the waters edge you will need surf shoes or risk slashed toes!!!! Despite the coarse (glass) sand this beach is rife with shells, clean toilets, a great children's play park & fun merry go round. Plus, a choice of excellent restaurants and vigilant life guards - everything you could ask for!

The whole day was pleasant and relaxing. It was the perfect activity to reconnect with a family member whom we had not seen in quite some time. There are little things to discover on the island as you walk around and we ate at a good creperie. Fun outing.

Chapelle Sainte Barbe

Reviewed By BigAnnII - Plymouth, United Kingdom

The chapel of Saint Barbara is on a little hill overlooking Roscoff harbour. The building itself is quite plain from the outside & the inside is not accessible. However, from the seaward side there is an excellent view over the harbour - a view that changes dramatically as the tide comes in & out.
