Most of the old buildings have now been restored and locals are proud of their town again. At the rynek there are no 'modern' fast food shops or bars, but trees and a traditional bakery (highly recommended) a relief after so many noisy central squares in other Polish cities. An efficient tourist office is located at the rynek as well. Walking up to the castle one can hear singing in the nearby churches. Przemysl is profoundly catholic. Wonderful outpost of the former Austro-Hungarian empire.

We took our elderly Aunt out for an afternoon as she is a keen gardner. The variety of flora and fauna was a sight to see. Took a good two hours to wander around slowly. Some of teh paths are not that good for an elderly person

Przemyśl Station is a building of rare beauty.Built in Neo-Baroque style the station first opened in 1860.
In 2010 the station was fully restored to it's original condition. The walls are decorated with beautiful paintings and crests and illuminated by chandeliers. On the exterior plates remind us of the deportation of the jewish population of the city as well as Polish battles. Facilities include a tourist office, Railway booking office, A newsagent and snack shop as well as a model shop. The Station is now the border station with Ukraine and international trains serve it. Well worth a visit for anybody visiting the beautiful city of Przemyśl

For me, the Przemyśl fortress is not the underground sightseeing, but the opposite! ~ the top of the hill great open view. The fortress was five separate forts located on adjacent hills. They could defend each other and control a large area. For a grande-view go to the “wzgórze Zniesienie” ~ Zniesienie hill on the road „ Ulica Przemysława”. First you will pass the military cemetery, also worth to see, since the WWI soldiers are buried there. There is a parking lot at the top of the hill and the huge statue/cross ~ Krzyż Zawierzenia. There are some education boards explaining location of the main fort and a (steep) but mostly paved paths to some remains. There is a view “forever” and you could see in the distance the hills where the other forts where. The history of fighting during WWI is fascinating, and very bloody. We were lucky, had a guide who was a WWI “fanatic” and he explained where the attacks were, how long was the Russian siege and why the Austrian gave up. Great history, great view, good walks.

The Cathedral of Przemyśl is located at the Cathedral Square in the Old Town. The first Cathedral of the Diocese was a wooden church which existed from 1375 to 1412 howver construction of the present Cathedral in the Gothic style began in 1495. The reconstruction was completed in the first decades of the sixteenth century.
It is really worth to step in while visitting Old Town. Entrance of course for free.

Well renovated few year ago looks nice inside and outside. In the castle is also the small theater, where every year you can enjoy the view for the whole city and see Performances written by Aleksander Fredro - on of the most humorous Polish writer.

A museum about bells and pipes could seem a bit weird, but it's actually a great place to visit. Nice collections with explanations in both Polish and English. The exhibition is located in an old tower and will lead you to the top terrase where you have probably one of the best view on the town. Located within the old town, this museum is worth a visit.

As luck would have it, our trip to Przemysl included many rainy days so this was a perfect chance to visit the Underground of the town.
The underground is comprised of a few tunnels and rooms of historical artifacts and photos. It is an interesting experience and fantastic value for money. You can do this tour with a guide or self paced. The tunnel itself has been restored remarkably. You enter from one end of the town square and then end up at the other end.
They also have an interactive screen which you stand in front of and the screen 'dresses' you up in period costume. Both the adults and kids found this hilarious!!
From memory I don't think it is open every day, so it's worth finding out which days so you don't miss out!
I'm glad we did it and would definitively recommend the experience.

Had a good afternoon browsing round here. Personally I found the ww1 exhibition the most interesting but the sections on christian art and a lost Polish Jewish culture were also superb. All that for less than £1 to get in.

Cette église baroque se situe près du Rynek. C'est l'ancienne église des franciscains a été reconstruite au XVIIIe s. : nombreuses sculptures et fresques à l'intérieur, mais l'ensemble est un peu lourd.
