We noticed that at last the Tower seemed open to the public, so we went along to see what all the fuss was about. The Tower is now open for festas and holidays during the year as well as in the mid-summer and it certainly is worth the effort of going. The tour itself was €5 and worth every cent, even though as it was in Italian we were really only able to get the gist of much of what was said. Still even this was interesting and the guide obviously knew his stuff. There is lots of available literature (some in English) and a delightful bar/terrace area (just don't drink the rose!!). Around the tower are some well laid out Gardens which are surrounded by beach and pine forest. A lovely way to spend some time if you can find somewhere to park!!!

The Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta in Atri is an interesting Cathedral dating from the 13th. century but built on top of Greek/Etruscan/Roman constructions perhaps dating as far back as the 4th. century BCE. The wealth and importance of the city reached a pinnacle in the 15th-16th centuries under the rule of the Aquaviva family and the Duomo became an important site for pilgrims. The Cathedral museum is a modern, climate controlled facility housing the treasures of the Cathedral and covering everything from carvings, books, sculpture, relics of the saints, silver, and vestments. We have never seen such an amazing collection in what is a relatively small church. The Museum entrance fee also covers a visit to the Roman water storage cistern, another architectural marvel.

Consigliatissimo!

The Nature Reserve "Calanchi di Atri" (Badlands of Atri), established in 1995, covers 390 hectares, spreading from the valley floor of the Piomba stream at 104 mt above the sea level to the Colle della Giustizia (Justice HiIl) at 468 meters above the sea level. The biodiversity and geological diversity of the badlands make the agricultural landscape a unique natural heritage site and an area of great national importance. The badlands, known also as "Dantesque pits of hell” or “devil's scratches" called in dialect "li Ripe" (escarpments), thanks to their imposing architecture, are one of the most fascinating aspects of the Adriatic coastal landscape. Past deforestation and pastures has brought to the surface clay soils, which, eroded by the alternation of periods of rain and drought, produce these particular formations.
You can (and should) personally go & see the magnificent remains of 1000s of years civilization in Italy. Another reason to visit Italy is of course the climate, which beats Schotland (by 15 to 0 in Calcio terminology, but that's yet another side of Italy)....MoreThank you for feedback!

Per un pranzo veloce a prezzo onesto, va bene. Molto spartano, ma gentili. Un attimo di attenzione in più nei servizi igienici.

The Twenty Beach stems from the desire to offer our guests magical moments at the seaside doing smile and quality of our products and services are the main characteristics of the business. We try to ensure a tourist service to 360 ° , 7 days 7 , which can meet the needs of each age group , in an environment created with taste , young but without excess , suitable for families and anyone looking for an active holiday , marked by various initiatives at every hour of the day . Professional staff of the Twenty Beach will be on hand from early in the morning for a happy awakening , for a quick lunch with the flavor fresh and typical of our cuisine , until sunset for an aperitif or a dinner fish ( by reservation only ) . All this while enjoying the scent of the sea and the sound of the waves , in style and in complete freedom , even while in costume until late evening .
I will start by saying that, unfortunately, my experience in Italy - when going ANYWHERE - has not always been a good one due to the lack of customer service in all areas of Italian society. However, Twenty Beach left me with hope for the future of this country.
The owners are very customer oriented, friendly and have a desire to do something different and fun for the small beach town of Silvi Marina (using many eco friendly products in their construction, design and food). They take the time to get to know each client and do it with a smile - really such a breath of fresh air! The staff including Stefano, Cristian and Manuela (along with the friendliest older man who makes the mouth watering homemade pizzas but never found out his name) are the same incredibly customer oriented, friendly and "get things done" type of staff as the owners.
This trendy summer beach spot organises events every night with drinks, music and dancing along with summer games, music and activities for kids and babies on the weekends. It's also great if you are looking for something a bit more low-key because early mornings and late afternoons at Twenty Beach is filled with a peace and beauty that is difficult to explain - you just have to experience it.
The actual location is clean, well kept and the food is wonderful (excellent soy cappuccinos!). It has racket ball courts, a small park area with swings and other games for children. Also, has parking for bicycles and a lounge area with big pillows on the grass.
I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a carefree and fun summer along the Adriatic Coast. Again, a very much unexpected and very welcomed surprise to how things may be changing in Italy. Thank you Twenty Beach!

While on a quick visit to the area, we were recommended to visit Atri. We were here on a sunny and beautiful November day, and really enjoyed strolling around this lovely little town. Plenty of winding streets, little piazzas, churches, and beautiful old buildings to look at, and just enjoy the atmosphere. The park at the eastern end of town is lovely for a stroll as well, plus you get gorgeous views of the surrounding area and the Adriatic Sea. We enjoyed our visit to Atri so much that we came back again in the evening for dinner, and had another lovely stroll through town at night. Atri does get some tourists, but not as much as other parts of Italy, and certainly fewer foreign tourists, so it is more "genuinely Italian" and not just catering to tourists. And don't forget to visit the bakeries for some delicious souvenirs...
