Playa Manuel Antonio

One of Costa Rica's most popular Beaches, Playa Manuel Antonio frequently hosts parties and festivals, and it is an ideal destination for avid surfers.

Reviewed By brodarte - Toluca, Mexico

On the south side of the Beaches that are within the Manuel Antonio park. Waters on this side of the park are very calm and perfect for swimming with younger kids. The nature surrounding this place makes it an even better attraction. Much less crowded than the public beach at Espadilla probably due to the fact that you need to pay $16.00 to access it. Kids under 12 enter free of charge. Remember to bring your own water or drinks. You are allowed to bring in small highly recommended.

Rainmaker Park

Reviewed By michellewZ8953MN - Wanaka, New Zealand

Rainmaker is a great hike featuring hanging Bridges, Waterfalls and more importantly pools to take a swim in. The nice thing about rainmaker is that it is very quiet ie not many people. Walking the trail also provides an opportunity to see animals as well.

La Iguana Chocolate

Organic Chocolate, Education & Experimentation When a third generation cacao farmer turns chocolate maker - the results are beautiful! About Us La Iguana Chocolate is a Costa Rican family owned and run, organic farm in the village of Mastatal. Located towards the Pacific Coast: 2.5 hours South-west of San Jose, roughly 1 hour inland from Parrita, 1.5 hours from Jaco or Manuel Antonio. Our family have been farming this land and growing cacao for three generations. We first opened our doors to visitors, volunteers and guests in 2004. We now offer school groups, students and guests the unique opportunity to learn about sustainable living, permaculture, natural building and chocolate processing in the stunning tropical rainforest. We offer chocolate tours and treehouse accommodation for those interested in seeing a less touristic side to Costa Rica. Like most great things in Costa Rica, we are at the end of some slightly bumpy roads, the views are stunning, however we do recommend a 4x4 in the rainy season. Tours Our hands-on educational chocolate tour is lead by one of the family on our farm. Over the course of roughly 2.5 hours, we will take you through every step of the chocolate making process from harvesting and tasting the fresh fruit through to making your own delicious chocolates. You will also have the opportunity to make a traditional Mayan style hot chocolate and sample some freshly baked chocolate brownies. Tours are available from Monday - Saturday. Please book your tour in advance via email. We do our best to be flexible with days and times to suit your plans, however we are a small fully operational farm, run by a team of 4, and appreciate at least 2 days notice to organise our schedule. Find Us Google Maps or Waze will reliably help you to navigate to the farm, simply search for La Iguana Chocolate. For more information about anything we do at La Iguana, please see our website or find us on Facebook, Instagram, Google or contact us directly.

We came there without reservation and they were very friendly and arranged a tour for us even without any bookings. It was really interesting and we were able to taste and make our own chocolate. They even made us amazing chocolate cookies coming straight out from the oven.
Definitely one of the best activity in Costa Rica !! Do not miss it is worth it !!

Our group of 5 spent an incredible morning with Michael in Manuel Antonio National Park. We were on a Windstar cruise that stopped in Quepos and we hired Michael to guide us through the park, which is just a few miles from Quepos. Michael picked us up at the marina early on a Sunday morning and drove us to the park. We were able to skip the long line of people waiting to buy entrance tickets, which in and of itself was a great start to the day! Michael was able to spot birds, bats, insects, and animals that we'd never be able to see on our own. He had a high-powered scope with him that he would set up so we could see all of the amazing flora and fauna in the park. Michael clearly has a passion for his work. He is extremely knowledgeable, as well as incredibly friendly and personable, We walked for a couple of hours through the park, stopping frequently to examine sloths, butterflies, bats, frogs, iguanas, monkeys, and assorted other species. We reached a beautiful beach after awhile and ate the snacks and drank the water that Michael provided us. If you want to swim, be sure to wear your bathing suit under your hiking clothes or bring a suit to change into. The walk back to the park entrance was by a different route and faster because we didn't stop as often. Wear good hiking shoes and be prepared with a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. I highly recommend choosing Michael as your private guide through Manuel Antonio National Park. You will be glad you did.

This was such a fun activity that we highly recommend. The guides were super helpful, making sure we felt comfortable before we set out for our 3-4 hour adventure through the muddy countryside. We ATV'd out to a super refreshing waterfall, and when we finished the tour, were greeted with a delicious home-cooked Costa Rican meal.

Playa Bejuco

Reviewed By Leaper33 - Frederick, Maryland

Like the other reviews this is a very nice quiet beach with beautiful sunsets. Have been there many times. Mostly ticos with a few guests from the hotels just north. Sometimes almost empty during the week. If you walk a couple of kilometers south there is an interesting estuary and mouth of the river flowing into the ocean. At low tide you can walk across to the beach on the other side. Good fishing at the mouth of the river for snook. Nice beach for a sunset horseback ride. Good Surfing but extremely dangerous riptides here even for a strong swimmer.

Palo Seco Beach

Reviewed By bluepig1 - Chicago, Illinois

This one requires a rental car to get to, as it's a roughly 45 minute drive from Quepos and includes about 15-20 minutes down an isolated gravel road. We were 2 of only 4-5 people on the entire stretch of beach. There are little parking areas (free) on the side of the gravel road. It's very fine black sand/brown sand - though hot to the feet given the amount of heat absorbed from the sun, so we were eager to get our feet in the water. The water is a little rougher than other Beaches so may not be great for young children. Every 100 feet or so there are rough little shelters built so we were able to sit on the sand underneath a thatched shaded cover, but otherwise bring your own supplies, snacks and drinks. No facilities here. On the drive back towards Quepos, there are 2-3 pipa fria (chilled coconut) and fruit vendors on the side of the road, selling a refreshing coconut (with a straw stuck in it to enjoy the delicious coconut water) for CRC500 each (a great value compared to the CRC2000 that the tourist-targeting vendors sell the same coconuts for on Playa Manuel Antonio and Playa Espadilla!

I am an experienced rider, and asked for a private fast ride. Silwia gave me just that! It was a fun-filled two hour ride on her 17.3 hand gentle giant Holsteiner, an exhilarating experience! We walked, trotted and cantered on the gorgeous, almost empty beach. Silwia then took me to the coconut grove, and offered me a healthy refreshment from coconuts she had picked from a tree, an amazing experience! She will take out groups or individuals, beginners or experienced riders, and give her customers excellent service. Silwia is a knowledgable horsewoman, and her horses, that come in all shapes, sizes and breeds, are very well trained, happy and healthy. I can't wait to go back and ride with her again. The best riding experience ever!
