September 1, 2017 Enedina Augsburger

Go from the 13th century to the 21st in one day in Naha. Its ancient Ryukyu Kingdom centerpiece, Shuri Castle, has been restored and is the city's top tourist attraction. Meanwhile, on Kokusai-dori (International Boulevard), the pace never lets up as locals and tourists hop from restaurants to bars to nightclubs.

Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum

Reviewed By Cyber0515 - Tokyo, Japan

The appearance of building is as "White Uluru"! It is a very spacious building, and has historical museum and art museum. Because the height of the building is not very high, I feel that the light from the outside is sufficiently taken inside. Especially the lobby is very bright! Because the composition and signs in the building are simple and functional, people who have visited there for the first time will not get lost. Of course, guidance of each language such as English is also complete. There are experience rooms for children in the building. Everyone regardless of age will be able to use and enjoy this museum.
I think that the fees of those museums are a little cheaper than other museums(Historical museum: 410 Yen/Adult, Art museum: 310 Yen/Adult). Fees of historical museum and art museum are completely separated.
The permanent exhibition of the historical museum exhibits very interesting nature and culture unique to Okinawa, from prehistoric natural environment to modern history. I stayed at the museum for over 3 hours, but I did not get tired of it at all. As you know, Okinawa has suffered from various difficulties and tragedies so far. But still it has weaved their own history strongly. You'll feel the power of Okinawa from the exhibits.
If necessary, you can take a guide explanation. However, there are guides that can not be explained in foreign languages such as English, attention is necessary.

Located at the Kokusai Street in the heart of Naha, this is the official souvenir shop of the Churaumi Aquarium - one of the world's best. They have a few fish tanks that offer a glimpse of the aquarium, lots of souvenirs and a cafe, where you can purchase advance tickets to the aquarium, located 90 km from Naha. Worth a visit.

My husband brought me to the historical castle in Okinawa. Easy access From Shuri Monorail station, it’s only 10-15 minutes walk. It’s is a nice place overlooking the town. A castle filled with Okinawan history. One of the must see place in Okinawa. Entrance fee can be a bit pricey tho, If you have a one day rail pass and you’ll get a discount for the Castle’s entrance fee.

This is a beautiful garden with a nice big pond and fantastically placed quaint little buildings placed all of the garden. Original people were the Sho family and they headed up the Ryūkyū Kingdom.
I walked to this place from the Shuri Hilton Hotel and it took me about 45 minutes along a dusty road with lots of traffic. Closest Yui Rail is Shuri but its still 2km from there. There are buses and taxis though.

After visiting the Shurijo Castle we found the easy exit to start a walk down this centuries old path . Built our of different rock type materials the path and the walls really give you the feeling of history . It is wonderful they have not modernnized this but kept it in the old style . One advise enjoy this path from the top down it is a little more than a kilometer long , quite steep and in rainy weather could be slippery . Going up is only for those in great shape and with good footwear .

Fukushu-en Garden

Fukushu En Park was built as the tenth anniversary of our friendship with Fuzhou City of China and the seventieth anniversary commemorative project of Naha municipal city government. It was completed in September 1992 and is 8,500 square meters in area. It represents the great trade era of Ryukyu and its Chinese architectural style has enormous impact on the Okinawan culture. Uizan,Uzan,Hakuto,Binko imaging Fuzhou's seenic beauties are placed in the park. The pond, the artificial hill, waterfall, plantings and sculptures that feature the magnificent nature often make visitors forget the location of Fukushu En Park-the heart of Naha.

Beautiful Chinese-style courtyard garden. For a centrally located city garden/green space I was very impressed with the large size of the garden. The garden includes water courses and ponds, stone Bridges, a waterfall, man-made ‘mountains,’ stone pathways and numerous buildings such as pavilions, pagodas, halls and covered corridors. Be sure to bring a camera as there are numerous photo opportunities - you pretty much can’t take a bad photo here. The entrance fee is a very reasonable 200¥ and brochures are available in English, Korean, Chinese, Spanish and Japanese.

Judging by this shrine’s clifftop waterfront location I was expecting tremendous views from here - especially after seeing old photos. Unfortunately, with land reclamation there were no views to be had. The shrine itself is nice enough, but only viewable from a distance. If you’re visiting the adjacent beach or park it’s worth a quick look, otherwise, I wouldn’t make a special trip here.

Fun place to go, especially on a rainy day. This shopping mall has many of the things you find in malls of America- Old Navy, etc. However, there's lots of unique things you must check out- the book store was quite interesting, as well as the arcade which was full of crane-style games- you can win everything from a stuffed animal, to food, to a kimono. The restaurants in the food court off a great variety. This is a great place to spend several hours if not half a day...

Short street with a few shops selling pottery. Nothing else here. If you are pressed for time, don't bother. If you are in the area, just walk through. It joins Heiwadori shopping street and near all the other attractions anyway.
