"The Cardada-Cimetta mountain range offers a truly unique view overlooking the entire region of Locarno and Switzerland's two extremes: the lowest point, Lake Maggiore, and the highest one, the Dufour point located on the Monte Rosa mountain range. The summit is easily accessible from Locarno's city centre by taking the funicular railway to Orselina, then the cable car to Cardada (1340 m) and finally the chair lift to Cimetta (1670 m). The cable car cabins at the departure and arrival points were designed by Ticino architect Mario Botta."

The place is very big and the environment is exciting.
The combination of free raptors and people taking care of them in a safe context, allows you to perceive the stateliness of such birds.
Why do those birds stay there, without going away, being free? Because there are professional people who take care of those big birds and giving them love and receiving love from them, in the mutual respect.
We were two adults and three children but, in front of such a situation, we were five (5) children guided by our imagination, while the big birds were flying close to us (one of them, about 9 kilograms of weight, flying above my head so near me that it gave me a caress with the feathers of one of its wings).
Intense and deep emotions for younger and older people.
Thank you to the whole staff, who provided us all the right and needed informations, for understanding those birds and the relationships between the staff, taking care of the raptors, and the birds themselves.

Ascona was one of our stopovers on the tour aroung the Lago Maggiore. Esthetically, it was the most beautiful one.
Pictoresque views from any angle along the lakeside.
The Promenade, lined by restaurants, cafes, luxury shops, chocolaterie, some children play area on one side and plate trees, benches, boats and the lake itself on the other. Views of colourful houses on the hills, and nice horizon.
This is truly a quaint and photogenic, beautiful place to be at.

Ever since I first was here as a child, this one of my most favourite places in Switzerland. It is absolutly beautiful, the clear water is breathtaking and it makes a one of kind experience for every one who sees this the first time.
If you want to visit this, plan some time to go swim in the water. It is terrible cold - alway even in summer - but it truly stunning to swim in such clear waters and there are lots of places where you can get down to the water.
Please be aware, there are always a lot of tourists there. If you want to avoid them, go in the morning, of late in the afternoon. Also, the most famous part is the little bridge which you can see on a lot of pictures. Want some peace do not stop there but drive a bit above of the bridge or stay somewhere south of it and you have a lot less people. (all want to be at the bridge but the water is everywhere stunning not just at the bridge)
Parking is difficult, take your time to find a spot, drive a few times up and down the valley if you are unlucky to get one straight away. Patience is the key...
Be careful with walking along the street. It is a very narrow street, and lots of cars go up and down the valey. Walking along can get dangerous, especially with little kids.
There are public busses who drive all the way up the valley, you can go with them if you want to avoid the parking issue.
Over all, and even though it has more people every year, i love it. And if you can find a little spot for yourself it s absolutly peaceful and so beautiful you will have a memory for a lifetime!

Very elegant roman church, containing frescoes from the 15th to 17th centuries. Open hours are quite restricted. We were lucky once around lunch time.

The Adventure Park Gordola is an acrobatic park hanging in the air and integrated in the sport area in Gordola (Centro sportivo Gordola). By means of installed cables and wooden and roped air platforms, the Park allows the visitors to undertake a route among trees in all safety, where balance, concentration, coordination and partly strength are indispensable. The Adventure Park makes, adults, young people and children reconnect with nature, escape from daily life and feel the sense of adventure and happiness of spending time with friends and the family, by suggesting new forms of fun and entertainment which are natural and eco-friendly in all safety.
We had two hours of fun in this well structured, safe but challenging adventure park. I think this is the perfect activity if you want to spend quality time with family or bond with friends before heading towards the grotto or restaurant. We definitely will return next year to attempt the black route. Be advised that children have to be at least 1.40cm.

OnArte is an exhibition platform and video lounge for contemporary art. In six Exhibitions per year different positions in the visual arts will be shown and socially intervening new formats will be investigated in. The Focus is on young artist's work as well as on the work of more established Ticinese, Swiss and international artists and artist collectives.
L'amore dei curatori per l'arte li spinge ad invitare artisti internazionali ed offrire punti di vista davvero originali. Se poi avrete la fortuna di partecipare a una vernice, vivrete un'esperienza antropologica.

If you are cruising on the lake from Locarno or one of the other locations you have the choice of hopping off the boat to visit this little island. The island has created the most beautiful botanic Gardens with species from around the world. It also has a hotel on site where you can either have a meal or simply stop by for a drink while you wait for the boat to come back to collect you. Allow an hour or two depending on how interested you are in Gardens! There is a small admission fee of around 7 francs.

I recommend taking the funicular up to the church. It's not a long distance but it's steep. The walk down is much more pleasant -- all downhill, and the path is excellent.
The church is lovely and very well kept. We didn't go into the museum because the weather was beautiful and we wanted to get back outside.
The views of the city, lake, and Mountains are great -- best from above the church rather than the church grounds itself.
