Latille Waterfalls and Gardens

Reviewed By Johan17 - Haarlem, The Netherlands

We visited Latille Waterfall and Gardens. If I remember correctly the entrance fee was either 10 or 20 ECD (so not very expensive).
We talked to the very friendly Rastafarian gentlemen, who were very positive about my home town, Amsterdam :-)
On their advice we also sat with our feet in the small pond to experience the rather funny feeling of fish feeding from your feet (that is my wife did, I didn't).

The resort we were going to offers a free shuttle but we opted for private transport. Best decision that we made the entire trip. We were picked up by Andy Love. Instead of it just being a dull hour long ride to our resort, Andy gave us lots of great information about St. Lucia. He offered us cold refreshments. He even stopped at a beautiful spot to let us take photos. He also took us through a neighborhood to give us a feel for life there. We stopped at a spot where they were baking the most delicious bread. We took photos there too and he also bought us two fresh out of the oven pieces of bread.
This was above and beyond what we expected from a ride to the resort. Andy was warm and friendly and full of knowledge about St. Lucia. And he even had his own Hot Spot so I was able to get in the internet during our ride to the resort.

There's a tree with an orchid just growing freely from it in these Gardens. There were mint green, turquoise, buttercup yellow, bright vivid reds and pinks, so many beautiful colors and varieties of flora. It's just stunning! You can't imagine how beautiful and exotic these tropical flowers are. It doesn't take a ton of time to go through - you can easily do in an hour - but you need to go do it. Some of the flowers remind me of Dr. Suess. So unusual and beautiful that they don't seem real. The entrance fee is nominal per person.

Pitons

A spectacular landmark of St. Lucia visible for miles, Petit Piton and Gros Piton are twin volcanic spires majestically soaring out of the sea with waves crashing around their bases.

Reviewed By Ben_SINY - Shelter Island, New York

The Pitons were the entire reason I chose to go to St Lucia. They were calling to me from the start and before we even arrived I knew there was something magical and special about the Petit and Gros Piton. This was reinforced and reiterated many times before during and after our hike. My GF at the time and I started the day early and began the Petit Piton hike. Our guide Ashleigh was very careful and made sure we were taken of and safe the entire time. This hike isn’t for everybody but it DEF was for us! It was very technical and I loved using the ropes and roots to climb. There were many times where we weren’t even hiking but actually rock climbing. It brought me back to my days of being a kid so I didn’t have a problem at all! I enjoyed the challenge and was even more excited I was doing it with my GF. It wasn’t sunny all day we def had some rain showers pass thru and this made for some slippery climbing conditions. Once again Ashleigh was on it and kept an eye on us and the extra mud didn’t faze us at all. The quick rain showers just made for a full day of hiking the Pitons and getting to enjoy rainbow after rainbow! I couldn’t even tell you how many double rainbows we saw that day on our hike. We loved the view from the top of the Petit and enjoyed our time at the top esp when the sun came out for us. We would’ve stayed longer to take in the views but we weren’t finished yet, we still had to eat lunch and hike the Gros Piton. It was back down the Rabbit hole and a slippery but breathtaking way down the Petit. We stopped at Marthas for a quick and delicious lunch to refuel and rest up before we hiked up the Gros. Our guide got us there just in time and this time our guides name was Errol. He was a great kid and we were the last people up the mountain that day, which made it perfect for me since I was planning on proposing,I let Errol in on the secret and up another Piton we went. The Gros isn’t anywhere near as technical as the Petit hike but it’s def a strenuous and demanding hike. The viewpoints were great and always came at a perfect time for a break. By the time we reached the top my GF and I were exhausted and drained, we had just spent 11 hrs hiking both Pitons. I knew I could get us an extra bit of energy for the way down so while Errol was taking pics of us, I got down and proposed to my GF who soon turned into my Fiancé! It was absolutely SURREAL hiking both Pitons and then getting engaged at the top of the Gros. We learned over a few days with our St Lucian friends that we were now “Lucian to the Bone” after completing both hikes and getting engaged at the top. They considered it a blessed union for being so high up the mountain and in the clean/fresh air, it was also the start of a new life with all the rainbows we were told. Without water there is no life and those rainbows that kept showing up all day were just showing us the signs of life, esp a new life with my fiancé! The Petit also represents the Male in nature and the Gros represents the female. This made perfect sense to me esp with the female always being larger in the wild so she can protect her young. Def had to propose after hearing about the Gros representing the female, we did the Petit Home first since it was the hardest and finished on the larger but very challenging Gros. If your into the outdoors and enjoy a good challenge then these hikes are right up your alley. It was definitely the hardest hike I’ve ever done but by far the most rewarding. The views are breathtaking and show different view points of the North of the island and the town and bay of Soufriere from the Petit and from the Gros Piton, you can see South showing the St Lucian countryside all the way to the Maria Islands and on a nice day you can see St. Vincent to the South. The views of the Petit Piton from the Gros were amazing and looking down from each you could always see and hear the ocean. What an amazing adventure the Pitons were and to get engaged at the end to the woman I love doing the things that we love just made it even more memorable!

Sulphur Springs

The Sulphur Springs Park is a world renowned site where visitors from all over the world come to experience the black water pool baths and learn about the drive in volcano's history in a guided tour through the park.

Reviewed By Kristin B

Hired a private driver for the 2 hr winding road to the sulphuric bath that was advertised as a drive thru volcano. Glad we weren’t on a bus with hoards of people because they were already there at the Springs! Hoards of them, almost making it unsafe. You stand in line to change your clothes, with nowhere to place your bag once you’re changed. Then you get in a small rectangle muddy water bath with the mud squishing through your toes. Very crowded in the pool and rocky footing. When you get out, a worker coats you with mud. You’re supposed to let it dry on you. Then you reverse the process, ending in an outdoor shower to try to get the mud off you. Good luck with that. It’s a 15 min experience you’ll wish you hadn’t tried.
