The Mayaguez main square has a statue of Columbus.
Plaza Colon is all lit up in the evening and they have some amusement rides and lots of vendors to order local Puerto Rican food. The lights on the building change colors, it is gorgeous (not sure if they only do this during the holiday). Lots of people were walking around, it was very festive. An hour or two is fun to hang out here.

A noteworthy Mayaguez theater.
I went with my family to see La Hija del Faraon Ballet, and we were very pleased with the theater. Clean, sophisticated, elegant and with marvelous architecture. Seats, lighting, accessibility. We enjoyed ourselves, not only watching the ballet, but admiring the beauty of the structure and chandeliers.

Offers self-guided tours through its tropical Gardens.
Everyone visiting Mayaguez should come here. TARS has an excellent collection of plants, a variety of trees, and if you are lucky, they may share some ripe tropical fruit with you.

Find the great explorer in Plaza Colon gazing out at sea.
The weather was fantastic when we went to Barcelona in early December so we decided to take a visit to the Columbus Statue.
The visit to the top of the statue is accessed by a lift and it will cost you €8 per person but the view is fantastic and well worth it to look down on the city of Barcelona.

I pooped in the casino because we were staying in the hotel. Clean and fun. A ton of slot machines and a few card tables. No smoky smell! Everything was in good repair and security was checking everyone that came in. Parking on the lot easy in and out.

A Mayaguez park with notable walkways and Fountains.
My beautiful city of Mayaguez, the park is quiet Parque de Los Proceres for family enjoyment. You can bring your bikes, power wheels, weddings, photographs sections are held, it is a time to be relaxing.

The only large-scale zoo in Puerto Rico, this 45-acre tropical attraction is home to a wide variety of animals including elephants, hippos and exotic birds and reptiles.
Seems that this place was really nice 2 years ago, now you can tell the lack of mainteniance.
Is true that the animals look very sad... and some animals are missing, like the can kangaroo couple, where there is only one left...
Peacocks are walking everywhere, which is ok, but I also found a big iguana walking in the sidewalks...
Definitely they need to do something to restore the place.

Uninhabited island in the Mona Passage that is a mecca for divers, biologists, hunters and tourists interested in seeing unique wildlife.
I have been visiting Mona Island with my brother twice a year for the last 11 years, as part of a group of pre-selected Scientist, Biologist, preservationist, and hunters that controls the population of wild-life(my brother is a disease control researcher) and avid Hunter and conservation activist. We take part in counting, taging, researching and controling the Population of Wild Goats, Wild Boards, Ferrel Cats and Comodo Dragons found on the Island. I work for the Goverment in the US to mantain funds coming to the Island for the research team. at any one time there are only 75 to 100 people a week on the Island, there is no Water or Food, You bring all the necesities for the whole week you come saturday and leave the following saturday.
