Dean's Blue Hole

Reviewed By abbyyeater07 - Defiance, Ohio

Took a boat ride with Capt Jerry for the day from Exuma specifically to see Deans Blue Hole, it takes your breath away when you see it! My husband jumped from the cliff in and loved it, I wasn’t so brave. Thought I would swim over it but it’s very intimidating and a little creepy. We swam near the edge but not over it, as the current is strong. Truly a wonder to marvel at.

Long Island

An island in the Bahamas best known for its shark feeding dives.

Reviewed By Sara_sakflva - Arlington, VA

We went with our kids looking for something off the beaten path in the Bahamas. We rented a house near Stella Marisa and had a car for the week. The island doesn't have a lot of developed infrastructure meaning no water system. So we were on a large rain barrel at the house. The roads in many places were really bad. We tried to find some on shore snorkel locations. They are hard to find. You end up navigating by google earth vs a maps app. The food in general was good. Everyone was wonderful and nice.
Deans blue hole is fun and also has a great beach. We brought lunch and had a picnic.
If you are around on Saturday morning at 8am there is a farmers market in sand lake.
My family tried to kayak the mangroves but it was too windy and we turned back.
We went to the rock pools south of Stella maris. Go at low tide and it's easy to snorkel the little pools. I saw decent fish. On a calm day, it's great. Be careful and don't stay on the ledge. It's right on the Atlantic.
We stumbled upon the big green hole. My husband snorkeled and saw shells and such. Across the bay people were having a party. It looked fun. There was fun shelling - smallish shells.
We went down to grays beach at the end of the main road south. It's beautiful. Had a calm bay and decent shelling.
We tried to goto Columbus monument. The road is awful. Beware.
We tried to find rainbow reef. It's off the road to Columbus monument the a left toward the kingdom project the a rigjt not to the kingdom project. The road ends at a private house with no trespassing signs. The house seemed like it was abandoned. Go to the beach and go off the point about 60 feet.
I wish we had hired a boat for the day and went around to reefs on the boat. Probably easier.
Moonshine bar at the Stella maris is great. Sue is wonderful and will take care of you.
Max's in deadman's cay has a wonderful conch salad. They open at 9 in the morning and will box whatever you want.

I don't think the nearby resorts offer excursions to this location any longer, so you'll need to get there on your own. But when you do, you'll likely have the place all to yourself. Bring a camera to capture the incredible vista from the top and snorkel gear for the underwater view. There are some shallow caves in the seaside cliffs that are begging for exploration.
Don't attempt to drive anything smaller than a jeep on the access road. It is rocky and uneven.
You can probably manage the trek on a road bike if you're in good shape, but you may need to stop and walk it in some places. Mountain bikes are ideal. Guests at Cape Santa Maria can rent bikes and be to the site in about 45 minutes.
If you park near Queen's Highway and walk the route, take plenty of water. It's nearly a 2-mile road in full sun exposure. It took my children and me about an hour to walk from the sign to the monument.
If you have the means and time, perhaps the easiest way to access the monument is by kayak. The Stella Maris resort offers a kayaking excursion through the mangroves north of Seymour's and into the Columbus Harbour. You can paddle your way straight to the small beach at the base of the monument.

We went out with Charles and his son Mico and we had an amazing time. We set out to look for Sharks, Star Fish and Conch. We found them all and more. After some Snorkeling my husband caught a Barracuda and then they took us to their camping spot to Grill Ribs, and Corn which we ate with Potato Salad. One would say unfortunately we got rained out while eating but our Daughter got a kick out of getting inside to Boat for a while till the Rain slowed down. She got to see and learn so much and we all loved it. We will be back. Thanks Charles and Mico for giving us some insight on what it's like to live on Long Island and answering so many questions.

Deadman's Cay Caves

A cave so extensive, it hasn't all been mapped yet.

Reviewed By solomonknibb - Baltimore, Maryland

Fun for kids and adults. The paths were pretty level for easy walking. Only had to squat low through one opening. Other rooms and passages had surprising high headroom. Guide Leonard Cartwright was attentive and paced himself to our group. Saw a variety of perching and stretching bats up close. About 50 minutes never a dull moment. Surprise that it was warm in the cave maybe 69 degrees and not 55 like we expected and dressed for from our Appalachian caves. Tennis shoes or strapped sandals recommended and not flip flops, because there are slightly slippery spots and rocky or uneven walkways in a few places.

Reel Addictive Charters

The number one best charter fishing and Spearfishing service in the Southern Bahamas. Offering deep sea fishing, Spearfishing or guided trips around the Bahamas.

Reviewed By Max D - Palm Beach, Florida

Having visited Long Island a number of times, I was excited to hear that they had an offshore charter boat now operating. I booked a fishing trip with Luke back in February, mainly to target wahoo. We were taken to Diana Bank which is supposedly home to some of the larger wahoos in the Bahamas. The trip was roughly an hour south of Long Island, and the weather heading out was great. Once we got to the fishing area the reels were quickly set up and lines were in the water. Within minutes of dropping in the lines we had our first hooked fish. Over the next couple of hours we were kept pretty busy with a very nice wahoo bite. Other than catching the fish, Luke gave us some tips on bait, gear, and fishing techniques. We finished the day with a number of wahoo and yellowfin tuna, which were also filleted for us back at the docks. Overall it was a great experience, and some of the best fishing that we have done in the Bahamas.

Crooked Island Caves

Dark, mysterious caves offer spectacular views of oddly-shaped rock formations.

Reviewed By tingrin2 - Savannah, Georgia

We had Robbie Carson pick us up by boat outside our room at crooked lodge. The cave is only accessible by boat and the ride was only ten minutes. The entrance to the cave is difficult to find so you need a guide. We have been to several caves in the Bahamas but this one is by far the largest and most beautiful. We explored for quite awhile and told that the cave is over three miles. The rooms are large and we did not have to crawl around during the exploring which my wife enjoyed. It's a must do if you visit crooked island.
