Small and local museum telling the long history of the area and its growth. Lots of information gathered here and the place where my other half grew up 50+ years ago. Interesting to see all the places that had not changed that much from the early days, but then the huge changes later on. Lots of fun and well worht the look around.

I drove the Stewart-Cassiar highway (BC 37) southbound from the Alcan to Hwy 16 in Sept, 2016.
The Northern half of the highway is a narrow road paved with sealcoat, not asphalt. There are no guardrails, no lane markings, no reflectors, and there is loose gravel on top of the surface. You'll encounter about three Bridges that are only one lane; you have to yield to oncoming traffic. One trucker told me he's lost mirrors twice passing oncoming trucks on this route. And just past Dease Lake, I saw a semi upside down in the ditch, recently rolled over.
About 200 miles from Hwy 16, the highway improves a lot, but it is still narrow and very windy.
Gas is not an issue, as there are stations at least once every 150 miles or so. Just don't let the tank get too low.
There is zero cell phone service along this route; however there are several towns along the way that offer pay phones if you really need to make a call.
Being from BC (Vancouver area), I didn't find the scenery that exciting; it really wasn't worth the extra danger of driving this highway.
I drove the alternate route, the Alcan (BC 97), from Fort Saint John, BC northbound earlier this year and it was a much better highway, with luxuries such as asphalt, guardrails, passing lanes, and the occasional cell signal. It was arguably more beautiful at times with wild Bison, Big Horn Sheep, and Black Bears in view from the road. The Alcan also has nice straight stretches where you can relax a bit and let cruise control give your feet a break.
The only reason I can see to drive the Cassiar is if you're going to Hyder anyway.

Giant Spruce Park is located on the shores of the Kitimat River flood plain. The remains of a previously registered "largest living Sitka Spruce in BC" can be found in the park. The tree measures 11.2 metres in circumference (36.7 feet) and once stood 50.32 metres tall (165 feet).
Easy to get to from the parking and then lots of flat walking around the area after you have visited the tree. We were here 15 or so years ago and not much has changed, the trails are much better now. If it is very windy a lot of stuff can blow down, it was rainy and blowy when we went.

British Columbia Coastal Water fishing adventures, charters and eco-tours.
My wife and I have taken three trips with Captain Jim's Adventures and have had an exceptional time. I have always wanted to live and fish aboard a boat. You stay mostly within the shelter of the inland passages and fish for salmon, lingcod, rock fish and halibut. You are treated to a great Crab and Prawn dinner on your first night. We have taken the five day trips and the 10 day Eco and fishing trip. The wildlife viewing is amazing. This is in the top five of my favorite vacations and fishing trips. Check out his website for great photos of the past trips. We will be back for more in the future.

A scenic lookout provides spectacular views of the Douglas Channel from the manicured Gardens of Coghlin and Kemano Parks. Gazing down the channel you may catch a glimpse of large ships coming in to the docks or one of the many smaller recreational boats dotting the water. To the east you will see the calm waters of Minette Bay. The Islands and coastal Mountains provide a breathtaking backdrop.

The Best Fishing in Northwest B.C Drifboat Fishing Trips on the Kitimat River Jetboat trips on the Kitimat and Skeena River Saltwater Trips out of Kitimat or Prince Rupert
On our roadtrip through West-Canada, the idea to go fishing came up spontaneously. On good luck we called Reliable Guide and Charters to see if they were able to host a guided fishing trip the next day. Although Ron (owner) was booked that day, he himself suggested he could take us on an afternoon trip.
Upon arrival in his tackle shop, instructions were very clear and helpful (especially since we had no experience with fishing at all). As water levels in the river were very low, we went down the river by driftboat. Ron knew exactly what was the best way to fish in these waters and we caught some big Coho salmon! (didn't have to wait long, every 15 minutes or so there was some action ;-) ). At sunset we still had to drift down the river towards where the car was parked. Even though it was a bit chilly, the scenery and silence of pure Canadian nature was breathtaking.
Ron is definitely knowledgeable and a nice guy. Good value for money, would recommend anyone :-)

Located across from Rio Tinto aluminium smelter, Moore Creek Falls is a photographer's delight. As you climb the rugged staircase carved into the hillside, the sound of snowmelt water rushing down the banks leaves you anticipating what's ahead. These falls are more spectacular after a good rain.
It is good that the smelting company has re-opened access to the falls. It would have been nice if the signage had indicated how long the walk was to the falls. Very short! Very amazing place. We love Waterfalls.

MK Bay Marina is a full service community based marina, located on the east side of the Douglas Channel. The marina is focused on servicing mariners who enjoy the ocean in this beautiful area. Amenities include Wi-Fi, laundry and shower facilities, long and short term moorage, camping sites and boat launch. The store offers a wide variety of tackle and boating supplies.
Enjoyed sitting here having a coffee and watching boats come in and out. The scenery on a good day is lovely .
