An aging zoo and amusement park geared for kids, it is in a remote part of Gunma and can take a while to get to. Locals will enjoy it, but tourists will probably want to avoid it. The rides are about 100 yen each, so it's pretty cheap, but Isesaki's Kezoji park offers better rides. However, this place also runs a nice, if a little old, zoo, which is interesting.

A nice indoor pool that is often crowded, but offers a few big slides and a wave pool. Good for kids and couples and people that love pools. Just avoid the old men that stare at bikinis.

The zoo is quite good for a free, local zoo. There are basic exotic animals and a small aquarium. The zoo is aging, and some playground things may be very rusty, but renovations happen from time to time and the zoo is generally well maintained. The amusement park is expensive for what it is, but the zoo has to be supported somehow. The rides are fast-paced, so not suitable for toddlers, but are not generally aimed at pleasing adults. There are many entertaining 50 yen rides for the very young.

I visited this place toward the end of May. The only living thing I saw inside the glass building (the main attraction?) were about three or four kinds of butterflies, tens or hundreds of which are constantly flying right over your head or immediately around you. I got some great photos of them. Perhaps, a larger variety of butterflies can be seen depending on the month or season one visits. That having been said, the building itself houses a vast collection of various dead butterflies. The hills and forest around the glass building have a trail network, which is decent for getting exercise and/or seeing dragonflies (and I guess--although I didn't see them--other critters). Unfortunately, whether or not you only want to take a walk, or also enter the exhibit and glassed building with the butterflies, either or both will cost you 400 yen. If the cost were less for only the walk (say 100 yen), I might come here semi-regularly just for the exercise in nature.

I think this is the oldest shrine in Kiryu. It has some great wooden reliefs of the outside walls, lots of things you might want to take pictures of, and lots of problems you can ward off if you pay for certain prayers to be performed by the resident priest. By far the prettiest when the cherry blossoms are blooming.

There are several spots in Japan where you can find a hot spa in the train station building, and this is one of them. This is a unique complex of a train stop and a hot spring, at a local rustic village alongside the Watarase-river.
Take five steps out of the train, and you are in the hot spa facility. There is no stay over facility, but a restaurant that can accommodate approx. 100 people.
Accommodate 100 people? The train runs only every 1-2 hours, and you can hardly find anyone walking there, and the hot spa is as large as for 10 people at a time, and YET there is a huge restaurant for 100 people? The secret is that they accept tour buses to Nikko area.
It is important to check the time for next train, and plan how much time you allow yourself in the hot spa and the restaurant. Otherwise, you may have to repeat the whole thing until the next train comes. If you miss the last train, there is nothing you can do.
A tip to enjoy your trip: choose the "torocco train" or the tram cart train that has no windows. There used to be a famous copper mine alongside the river, and the train was the main logistics method in those days. The mining cart train nowadays is for sightseeing purpose. You may find a similar one at Disneyland at Adventure Land, but this one is real. You will have a WILD RIDE with the "breeze" (stormy one, icy in winter), and the "clickety-clack” (ear-deafening blast, should be double wild in the tunnels). Beware of your ride, after the bath.

This is a museum using old textile factory building, and you can see all machines from the beginning. Dying by yourself is also passible. Many gift made in this area can be purchased in good prices.
