Częstochowa, [t͡ʂɛ̃stɔˈxɔva] ( listen), is a city in southern Poland on the Warta River with 240,027 inhabitants as of June 2009. It has been situated in the Silesian Voivodeship (administrative division) since 1999, and was previously the capital of the Częstochowa Voivodeship (1975–1998). However, Częstochowa is historically part of Lesser Poland, not of Silesia, and before 1975 (see: Partitions of Poland), it belonged to the Kraków Voivodeship. Częstochowa is located in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. It is the 13th most populous city in Poland. It is the largest economic, cultural and administrative hub in the northern part of the Silesian Voivodeship.

The architecture, frescoes and ornate decorations of this sanctuary is just breath taking & one will quickly realize which this location of part of UNESCO's heritage sites. A site that is very close & dear to the Polish people, a steady stream of pilgrims, tourists and those attending Mass makes the overall location somewhat crowded.

The holiest place in Poland and one of the world’s most important destinations for pilgrims. Every year several million pilgrims pray before the miraculous picture of Our Lady of Czestochowa.
We were on a Globus tour of Central Europe which included a visit to Jasna Gora. Our tour guide was Father Simon, who along with the historical narrative provided some hysterical (funny) narrative. Be prepared for security check at the entrance, including the inspection of women's purses. We were fortunate to to have an early morning tour as by the time we left there were very long lines. The history of the monastery was fascinating as well as the viewing of the "Black Madonna." It was a bit unsettling to walk through the church and around the back of the alter as Mass was being said, but apparently that is the norm.

I was a real experience for me. I had heard of the Black Madonna but after visiting the Church, I was amazed. I got to experience the opening ceremony as well as the closing ceremony of the veiling and unveiling of the Black Madonna.

Be prepared to see thousands of tourists/pilgims/school groups, etc., at this site. The architecture is beautiful and the tour guides are very accommodating; Food is available but tend to be long lines when many groups are present for tours. If a church service is taking place in the main Cathedral, be prepared for only a quick glimpse as you are walked by the Black Madonna painting.

Definetly worth to visit this history where from first hand you can learn everything about match production. From chemistry behind it to all the engineering parts and machinery - truly fascinating. Before visit I wasnt aware that there can be that many types of matches.
As well you can buy different types of matches for the memory on the exit of museum and enjoy the exibition of matches:D I was amazed what kind of sculptures you can make out of only one match.

The visit is with an audio guide (Polish or English), they give a lot of information and you can see some interesting exhibits from the history of mining as a whole. Surely not as great as museums in real mines, e.g. in Upper Silesia, but definitely worth a visit, especially if you don't know much about minig yet. Visits every half an hour, tickets sold in the building behind entrance to the museum.

They were the most interesting pieces of art to see inside and the gallery is worth visiting just because of it.

These two merged parks are located on a East side of Jasna Gora which means they can be a natural way up during a visit to a temple.
Parks offer numerous paths for a relaxing walk or jogging, picturusque Fountains, kids Playgrounds. You will find also lots of historical details there.
I was simply charmed by this place.

The best time to enjoy Jasna Gora for tourists would be during the non piligrimage time, when the paths are empty. Enoy a long stroll along this 2 km pathway and relish the ice cream and varoius restaurants.
You can find many locals coming here for their daily walk.
In the late nights, it does turn into a place for teens to hang around.
