Chateau du Petit Thouars is an award-winning family-run vineyard located in the heart of the Loire Valley wine country: between Chinon, Saumur, and Bourgueil. We are open year-round for free wine tastings in our traditional salle de degustation/tasting room and look forward to welcoming you to the joys of our 100% Cabernet Franc wines! Wine tasting - Cellar Tours - Group Lunches and Dinners - Picnics in the vines - Boat Tours.
We booked the Epicurian tour and tasting on the website and had a fantastic time. D'Arcy took us to see the vines and then into the cave where the wine is aged in barrels.
Sebastien conducted the tasting and was very interesting and knowledgable as he talked us through the wine they produce, all of which was delicious.
We bought lots too - thanks for such a fantastic day!

A fascinating cave to visit while in Chinon. It consists of many caverns carved out of the stone hillside where 100s of barriques and bottles of wine, including Chinon apparently dating from 1924, are stored. There is no charge for the unaccompanied visit, a dégustation of wines from three different local domaines is also on offer and there a range of wines from these domaines also for sale.

La deviniere, a country cottage and the birthplace of François Rabelais, is situated near Chinon (7 kms) in a village called Seuilly. The french writer used this place and surrounding lanscapes as the natural setting for a family of giants. The museum traces the life of rabelais : writer, doctor, humanist during a period called la Renaissance.
Fun to visit, but GSP it out to find it easily. Has something of fun interest for everyone, be it the house, children's room, garden, vineyards or just enjoying a walk of the property. Primarily in French, but you'll do just fine as it is a sensory attraction. ...

Chinon and the surrounding area has a good number of producers offering a range of delicious foods. One of these is Le Vazereau - a superbly run family business that makes some of the best goats cheese. Of course much of their range can be bought at supermarkets - but not all. The complete range is sold in their shop. There are at least 30 cheeses from the most delicate of flavours to the strongest, from the creamiest of textures to the crumbliest. They produce some surprises as well with their gorgeous herb or mildly spiced combinations. The family runs around 500 goats on their farm, which is on the other side of the road from the shop. Visiting a thoroughly enjoyable experience, providing an opportunity to meet the people who produce the food and know the business inside out. There also some very good wine producers in the same village, including Domaine Mary, which is just up the road.

A 19th century winemaking Chateau inspired by people who dare to live to the fullest… Chateau de Ligre is surrounded by a centenary of history encompassing royal personalities, nobility and wars. Our wines, our vines and our knowledge are the extension of the history of France and part of its proud heritage. Chateau de Ligre is located within the premier area of the Appelation d’Origine Controlee (AOC) Chinon, a small and touristic French town at the heart of the magical Loire Valley. Despite possessing over a hundred years of history, it was in 2014, when an epicurean arrived from the north of France with his family and some loyal friends to take over this family business, that Chateau de Ligre truly began to embrace the goal of producing the best wines on the market.
We were staying close by in the village of Anche and were recommended to a restaurant in the next village I'lle de Bouchard. The fine dinning experience was enhanced by the smooth dry red wine from Chateau de Ligre. Soon our return from Chinon the following day we happen to pass the sign for the wines an direction to Chateau where we were greeted by Madame Sylvie and fully entertained in the tasting boutique. Full marks for the presentation of the wines and the pure quality of the taste. Here is a small vineyard with a proud heritage which has been rewarded for many generations of skillful wine production. Just small and personal and just what you hope to find when exploring the Loire valley.

Castle and Fairytale Gardens Le Rivau was constructed in the 15 century by Pierre de Beauvau, Great Chamberlain of Charles the 7th. It is also renown for having been visited by Joan of Arc on her way to Orleans to get some horses. This medieval private castle is animated by more than 380 art-objects. In the royal stables, an exhibit on Francis the First last king-knight is shown. Gem among the Loire Valley, Rivau Gardens are labbled 'Remarquable Gardens'. All around the year, discover our amazing flower collections of bulbs, iris, peonies, roses, lavender, dahlias, ornemental grasses and vegetables. Rivau Gardens are Conservatory of Fragrant Roses and Conservatory of Vegetables that are used in our restaurant. The castle and Gardens are suitable for the whole family, adults will be interested in botanic, history and contemporary art and kids will be transported in a fairytale like environnement.
Both the Castle and the Gardens are beautiful, both are presented in a combination with art. It depends on your taste if you like the art. They have audio guides in several different languages and present the scenery with fairytale elements. The Gardens are beautifully landscaped.

Took friends for a tasting a few days ago. As always, such a good visit. Delicious fizzy, which is a remarkable colour, almost a pale peach. Lovely reds as well. Had a wander down amongst the vines. Had phoned first. We have French, our friends don't. But there was no problem as our host at Noblaie had some English, so was able to manage quite a bit for our friends. Great success. We went to the restaurant with our La Part des Anges in Chinon the following night and had a bottle of Noblaie's fizzy for an apéro. So good.
