64% inclination, so you hope the technology is dependable. And to your relief: the design and construction comes from Swiss engineer, Emil Strub. Opened in 1903, the Mendelbahn is regarded as the first electric powered cable car in Tyrol and is the steepest and longest continous cable car in Europe. A trip up the Mendel mountain is already an adventure in itself. And then, there's the impressive Panorama of the Etsch river valley and the South Tyrolean Unterland!Technical data: course lenght: 2,37 kilometers, travel time: 12 minutes, altitude variance: 850 meters.
If you are anywhere near the Mendel Pass, you should really take a bit of time to experience this attraction. The ride takes you to St. Anton, near Caldaro, and back again (or visa-versa). The views are stunning as you traverse the face of this very steep mountain. The tickets are moderately priced and there are eating facilities at both ends of the trip, which takes about 15-20 minutes.
Tip: The best times to visit are the shoulder seasons (May-June and September) when the crowds of tourists have thinned-out. Check for times of operation, as these can be affected by weather.

Deep, blue water is always extolled. But the Kalterer Lake is green. The landscape around the lake is green. The air reflects tones of green. Every shade of green, forest green, vine green, field green, reed green... " and there it lies, a mirror of green". A. Komarek Mediterranean flair at LIDO, a new swimming facility with an architectural style that no one would have ever imagined. Rowing boats, sailing boats, paddle boats and surf boards glide by. Otherwise, it is peaceful; except, for the laugh of children, who are in paradise. It's beautiful in the lake, on the lake and all around the lake.
This lake is known commonly as: Lake Kaltern in English or Lago Caldaro in Italain or Kalterer See in German.
It is a beautiful lake as the water is very clear and blue. The surrounding greenery and Mountains created a very peaceful scenery.
Highly recommended for nature lovers or landscape photographers.

My family and relatives took the winery tour. We enjoyed the peek behind the scenes, and saw part of the wine-making process in action. Our guide was friendly and enthusiastic. Afterwards we got to sample several of the wines, both as part of our tour and then additional wines in the sales room. They were uniformly very good. We bought several bottles to take with us on the rest of our tour of Italy. When we were leaving, we got to meet Count Michael Goëss-Enzenberg. He was charming and debonair.

How could it be otherwise? The South Tyrolean Wine Museum has established itself in Kaltern! Innumerable objects impress the visitor with the history and significance of wine in South Tyrol. There are impressive wine presses, wine barrels and other wine production tool and equipment. You will learn informative stories and legends about wine - for example the importance of the “Saltner” as the guards of the vineyards.
We spent a few hours here, a very nice collection of all things related to Tyrolean wine growing. Including a huge antique press. Well worth the 5 Euro entry fee. Outside there are some different wine variations growing in a space overlooking Caldara lake. Have a look!!

.... In quale altro posto questo può accadere? !!
