We visited Montaione for dinners and food shopping, and Carpe Diem was the best of some really great places in town. We were seated at a lovely corner table, and the service and food was the best. From the wine to the pasta first course, to perfectly cooked twin tournedos I enjoyed or the perfect tuna for my wife, and the unbelievable tiramisu dessert, this was a 2 1/2 hour delight. Our waiters and staff ( perhaps brother and sister?) were so enjoyable, and did great despite our language differences. Unobtrusive while being totally attentive, perfectly paced and prepared...we savored every bite and minute, and hated to leave except that we were done! Be sure to try this place for dinner, and I'm sure the views during the day must add even more to the experience.

Open Wednesday to Saturday dinner only. Sunday and holidays both lunch and dinner. Open every evening in August.
It looks rather like a wedding only venue, but is a fully functioning restaurant. the waiting staff were attentive and helpful, even bringing us dishes to try that they thought we might like. Tip - the fish menu is amazing! Everything was good and made the walk there and back well worth it!

We chose to visit based on hotel recommendation and good reviews
A quaint old building with eclectic decoration inside.
All tables in the main restaurant were booked mid week which is good but unfortunately we were seated in the entranceway by 2 families with small children whose little darlings were allowed to run about as if in a playground making service difficult and taking the shine off our evening.
The mixed antipasto was good containing a wide selection. Unfortunately the main was not so good - Fiorentina steak was not medium rare, more rare for 80% of it, the fried mushrooms with mint were lovely but no hint of mint and the roast potatoes were overdone and distinctly average.
Service overall seemed a bit rushed and impersonal. House red wine was a star at €12.
Maybe we were unlucky or maybe it has changed ? It did not match the reputation, reviews nor our expectations.

We visited La Montagnola quite a few times in the past 12 months due to our wedding preparations in Italy.
Whenever we came, our evening dinner has been truly delicious and such fun. The staff, especially the young owner of the restaurant, are super friendly, love to chat with their guests and are interested in their stories. The mother of the owner and his girlfriend are in charge of the kitchen and create wonderful and true Italian dishes. Even if you got an extra special wish, they are happy to please you. For example: I only like Gambaretti (a lot of them!) with pasta and not with mussels and squid like in the dish written on the menu. No problem for La Montagnola! First time I asked for this special, the mother of the owner even came to our table to ask if everything is fine and I am happy with my food. Truly amazing service! Last time we visited during a big thunderstorm where even the lights in whole Gambassi turned off for 10 minutes. The staff stayed calm, took care of everything and as soon as the lights turned back on we got served our dinner without anything to complain about. Just perfect!
So, what we can truly recommend are the Antipasto Misto plates - big and diverse!
Also, the fried vegetable are great - crispy and so rich in taste (not what you would first imagine when it comes to fried anything).
My husband loves the Tagliata di Manzo which comes in 3 different versions. And for me, like a said, Pasta with Gambaretti!
Also the pizza is very good and big!
Prices are moderate and truly fit the quality of food and service.
I can only recommend this place from my heart. We have been there a few times from August 2015 to September 2016 and never been disappointed.
Only thing: as La Montagnola is quite popular and well known in Gambassi, I would book a table beforehand

Our hotel recommended this place and we weren't disappointed. Lot's of choices on the menu. Their steak Florentine was delicious. The owner is a very happy and social guy. He plays 50's and 60's music in the background which sounded terrific. The price was very reasonable, the food was excellent, the service was prompt and I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't give it a try.

Cycling route 5 from Castelfalfi, we'd calculated breakfast & the distance to have a long lunch at this well recommended trattoria - we were exhausted - imagine the hungry and disappointed faces to find it was only serving drinks at lunchtime, food available in the evening after 6.
4 other cyclists were leaving as we arrived, no doubt we'd all have been happy with a Sandwich or bread / olive oil / meat / cheese and paid a reasonable amount for it.
Such a shame.

The menu is vast, meeting all the dietary requirements that we needed!
This is a great, local restaurant that served high quality food. There is an enormous range of food on offer and the choice was much appreciated by all our party.
The location is excellent, set in this old town that is full of character. Although sitting is mostly inside, there are glimpses of the fantastic views outside across the valley. The atmosphere was informal and local and gave a real insight into the local, but discerning, community.
Overall, certainly worth a worth for a splendid dinner.

Glad I booked a table for our Saturday evening dinner in advance, because the place became absolutely packed, mostly with locals, which quite impacted the speed of service (or lack thereof).
We started with an extensive antipasto for two, a big plank full of local goodies, followed by grilled pork tenderloin pieces wrapped in bacon on a skewer with interesting veggies. Very nice food.
Unfortunately we had a long wait for the accompanying wine - the young waitress apologised later for complete forgetting our wine order.

We've had many lovely meals here and are always so warmly greeted by the owners and staff. The menu has lovely variety and is a little different from usual Tuscan fare. Wednesday night is pizza night and it is literally the best I've ever had. The pizza menu is genius - choose 1 of 3 bases (can't remember what they are now but one is standard margarita) and add (or don't) from a list of toppings. Nothing beats a margarita pizza cooked to perfection with freshly sliced prosciutto added afterwards. A true sign o the pizza greatness is that I ate my leftovers cold the next day (I've never been able to stomach it anywhere else!)
We also did the cookery course for the morning here and it was a super experience, highly recommended and excellent value. Plus you get a great lunch out of it!
We very much hope to be able to come back next year!!! :-)

Place was very full, but they organized table within 20 minutes. Staff was very friendly and nice, joking and really taking care of each guest.
Pizza was very thin, was good.
Zuppetta and caprese were ok, but we had so much better during the trip. Choice of wine was very good.
Place is large and full of noisy tourists, maybe reducing by some tables would help.
If not staying for long in Montaione there are just better choices. If going for pizza only we would return as one is treated well - service-wise and cost-wise.
