The historical center of Baku reveals its tumultuous past, from its roots as a Persian capital, through its oil boom to its Soviet occupation. The old city is a maze of alleys, mosques, historic buildings and remnants of fortification, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the Maiden Tower, now listed among UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Much more than a historic site, the city hosts vibrant arts and cultural activities, as well as a bustling modern business sector.

There are lots of imported tropical and desert plants littering the flower beds on the bulvar. Along with many local cafes and snack stands, old fashioned carnival rides and fun free activities like giant chess sets, you can also find a mall with a grocery store, cleaners, and mainstream stores. When the weather is nice, sitting out with a beer and a snack is a nice weekend treat.

It was quite impressive place that I have ever visited. The art and the history come together and become a futuristic place. It worths to pay for entry, you will like it if you are a man of art lover.

This beautiful park is a nice resting spot just outside the old city walls, when you finished exploring the old town, on your way to the funicular leading up to the Upland park.
Out of many Fountains in Baku, this one seemed the most beautiful. During the Soviet times it was called the Governors Park.

As its name says this park is on a hill, in fact steep hill. To avoid a heavy climb I suggest taking a taxi up.
From the park there are excellent views of Flame Towers which are very close and whole Baku beneath you. Due to a hilly position park is winding and on cascades with many stairs, but very nice. Plenty of terrific photo ops. From the top there's around 30 min down to sea level, very pleasant walk.

What a Stunning view....
Impressed by the view from the park. It's totally cool, the panoramic view is awesome. Day visit either night visit are great, when you have day visit you can see the relaxing blue color from the sea and sky and green color from the trees spread around the city are perfect.
You probably could stay here for hours, so be ready with your snack and your drink since no shop (minimarket) but restaurant yes. Just before get the site there is a small shop which will be good for you to load your snack supply before heading the place.
There are funicular that will take you up, but that time not working, so walk, stepping the stairs is the cheapest option, or just take taxi that will offer you to get on the site.

If you like ancient history then it's a must. I personally liked it. Took local bus from Baku to Gobustan and then hired taxi for Gobustan National Park and mud volcanoes. Loved the trip. If you're in Azerbaijan, then it's a must visit.

This is a quirky shop-like museum for miniature books from all corners of the globe.
The books are nicely laid out in glass cabinets, divided to themes.
The entrance is free and you can easily enjoy a couple of minutes here, while visiting the old city.
