Unique geology has formed these Freshwater "holes" in the ocean off Andros that can be explored by diving or boat.
Just spectacular! We dove Stargate and another inland blue hole and both really blew are minds. The stalactites are amazing and the whole experience is like if you are flying inside a cave.

My adult son and myself went diving 3 days with Jesse. It was a fantastic experience! We dove in two amazing inland blue holes and also did six great ocean dives, including one spectacular blue hole and a dive in the Tongue of the Ocean.
Jesse is a great divemaster and knows pretty well the area. He also
Took us kayaking one afternoon.
If you want to dive in South Andros, Jesse is the man.

Fishers and divers flock to the third largest reef in the world.
The water is clear and there's lots to see without having to dive deep. In fact, you can see almost as much snorkeling. It's truly an amazing experience.

Visitors can tour the premesis and learn how the colorful fabric called 'batik' is made.
We traveled here on our s/v Firefly and stayed on the dock at the Lighthouse Marina. The factory is only blocks away. Email ahead for a tour and time to stamp your own or take a chance you can get in to stamp your own at a scheduled time later in the day.
My husband and I were given a tour by a young man who worked there. He was easy to understand and very thourough. He set us up for stamping our own. We did a sample fabric first and then could choose a men's t-shirt, tote bag or a yard of fabric. You have 5 stamp impressions you can use and a couple of wax pens. When you are done stamping on your white fabric you leave them and complete the tour. They will later dip your pieces in the dyes and you can pick them up 3 days later or have them shipped to you for a fee. It was $25 a piece and we paid $16 total for shipping to MT. They only dip it in one color so you all have to agree on a color.
Then you can go shop in their store. They have lots of different clothing pieces. We found their prices to be fair. I bought a sweatshirt material long skirt for $15 and a men's polo for $18. I also got a large bag of printed canvas samples (scraps) in various colors that I could sew later for $20. They take credit cards but their machine didn't work that day so bring cash in case.
It was a wonderful experience and a great souvenir for our trip.

Explore the area where it is believed that pirate Sir Henry Morgan buried his treasure.
We visited by boat and stayed tied off to the concrete government dock for one evening. The area has fuel, a local pub/restaurant, super friendly locals and a tour guide by the name of Christopehr Curry. Chris took our group to several local sights including Captain Morgan's cave and a resort in Nichols Town. Chris spoke of great diving, offshore fishing, fly fishing and hunting. While we only had an opportunity to visit the island for a few hours, I plan to return again and spend more time there.

Tucked away on the eastern shore of Andros Island in Blanket Sound sits Forfar Field Station, International Field Studies most popular field study program. Whether you are seeking education in marine biology, island ecology, geology, or island culture, Forfar Field Station is well-equipped to provide you with an unforgettable educational experience! Forfar Field Station provides easy access to many amazing sites. Not only does it neighbor the highest concentration of blue holes in the world, but it is also in close proximity to the 3rd largest fringing barrier reef in the world (less than 1 mile from our beach!) Hop aboard one of our boats to explore the shore of Forfar Field Station where you’ll find the world-renowned Tongue of the Ocean, a deep oceanic trench that provides fantastic underwater destinations and exploration. Study of coral reefs, mangroves, sand flats, intertidal biomes, blue holes, island vegetation, and local settlements are all part of the Forfar experience.
If you want a true eco-experience, this is it. I travelled with my Dad and brother for a true "boys'" escape. We are NOT the "eco" types at all. However, the staff and accomodations have us reconsidering our future trips. It was educational and rustic. I will be back.

The trail leading to the Rainbow Blue Hole is about a third of a mile and leads through the coastal pine forest and coppice. You will see native bromiliads, natural orchids. The trail is blazed with batik cloth strips along the way and signs are posted on different varieties of trees and plants to construct a nature trail. The ground is uneven and full of holes, fissures and sinkholes, so please wear shoes that fit and grip well! At the end you will arrive at the Rainbow Blue Hole for a nice cooling swim. The "beach" is all volcanic rock, so bring something soft to sit on and bring something to drink along the way. It is not advised to drink the water of the hole.
Coming North from Small Hope Bay Lodge on Queens Highway, you will pass the turn off for Davis creek's cottages, and then the settlement of Love Hill. Continuing on, you will see a sign clearly posting the Rainbow Blue Hole trail. Park along the side of the road and follow the blazes.

The most popular underwater wall in the Bahamas, best known for its diverse sites, from Canyons to peaks and everything in between.
Numerous spots along the wall have caverns and swim throughs, which create an underwater 3D maze with endless passages to explore.

I went to Andros as part of a Bahamas National Trust expedition. We ventured via boat through West Side National Park to a stunning spot on the western coast. Mangroves line water that's a shade of blue I've never seen before. If you ever have a chance to explore this untouched part of paradise, do it!

This beach's beauty is best seen at low tide for a clear, wide stretch of white sand.
The snorkeling trips took us to some fantastic Beaches. The water was unbelievably blue and clear. My favorite beach was Somerset Beach. It was low tide with many water pools left to explore. You could walk a half mile or more to get to the ocean. I found great shells at the high tide mark and in the shallow pools. That was on my first trip there with a Jr. high Science class. i was just on the trip for fun. No obligations. Just filling a seat. The wind blew all the time, so there were no mosqutos. The waves were a bit scary for a first time snorkeler, but I learned. The accomodations were not the greatest but the days on the ocean made up for any lack comfort. Go only if you still have a sense of adventure. If you are going for leisure only, try one of the resorts.
