Yes, it's pricey but it's also fun and interesting. I'm not massively into trains but it was a long time since I'd been on one and one of the few opportunities to go on a train in South America. You can no longer sit on top of the train but ask for an abyss-side seat for the best views. The scenery is stunning and whilst a little contrived, the dancing at Sibamba station was fun.

Mauricio is a very helpful person to get around Alausi, until Chimborazo or the Parque nacional Sangay, the lagunes Ozogoche. I contacted him very shortly and he replied promptly, fetched me at the bus arrival, and brought me to the hostal, back to the train. The next day we went to the lagunas de Ozogoche and to Chimborazo. Mauricio told me a lot about history and habits of his beautiful country. It was very interesting and beautiful nature he showed me and went for a walk between the two lagunas. Thank you! I highly recommend Alausi Tours!

If you like to stay in Alausi then take a walk around the village. After the 8 ó clock train walk in the centre for about 2 hours and then take a drink watching the 1 'o clock train coming back again. You even have some time to walk up to the statue. It is worthwhile staying the night for.

"San Pedro de Alausí" Viewpoint is really nice, you can see the whole town and take beautiful photos. You can go there walking o driving from everywhere within the town.

If you are walking around, talk a walk up the hill to this statue. It is not spectacular but the view is o.k. and there are worse ways to pass the time.
