I come to this park only for the fireworks in July. Get there early, like the day before to claim a spot. This is the best place to view the fireworks. There are bike trails and lots of ducks and swans. Good place to have a picnic too. Great for families with small kids and joggers. Enjoy.

Abiko city Museum of Birds

Reviewed By Reflectorgo - London

This is one of the best natural history museums I have visited. It is really amazing. It is founded on the collection of an early 20th century Japanese prince who was nuts about birds. It has a wonderful stuffed bird collection, dioramas, and lots of biological info about birds, how they are made, how they fly, etc. Also some beautiful art works dotted around. It is obviously curated by people who just love birds and love the museum. for the non japanese visitor a serious problem is that hardly anything is labelled in a foreign language, unless you read and speak Japanese you could be in the dark at times. They do have an English leaflet but it is not of course adequate. We luckily had Japanese people who patiently translated but I hope that they do get around to relabelling their exhibits in a European language, maybe English is the best because so many people speak it. The museum is modern, clean, a reasonable size and in a pleasant little city overlooking vegetable Gardens and a lake.

Akebonoyama Park

Reviewed By zbujenka - Tokyo, Japan

If you are feeling adventurous and need some change from all the traditional Japanese Gardens, hanami parties, etc. - Akebonoyama Park's tulip garden is something worth seeing, especially during the Tulip Festival (makes things a bit livelier). There's not much more there to see for a tourist, apart from a nice temple, but it is nice if you want to spend some time breathing fresher air and relaxing.
All in all it is a nice half day's trip from Tokyo. Especially for families (picnic and 'agriculture') and couples (romantic flowers and cute photo opportunities). One thing to have in mind, though: if you don't have a car, you'll have to ride a bus from the train station (they accept pasmo/suica) and there's going to be a crowd on the bus during the best season.

Akebonoyama Agricultural Park

Reviewed By ardhi108 - Kashiwa, Japan

Came here to see the iconic Himawari (sunflower), which was blooming around the end of July - beginning of August. As expected, The sunflowers were just awesome, some of them reach the height beyond 2 meters. Anyway, my best experience was relaxing near the pond and windmill, while watching to the blue sky and feeling the summer breeze.
There is also a park to enjoy with your kids and family. Vending machines are also easy to access.
My only complaint is the public transportation. The bus stop (to Abiko station) is about 1 km from the park, which will give a real pain if you visit this place in summer.
