Thabazimbi is an iron mining town in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The town is situated at the feet of the Ysterberg and is surrounded by the Witfonteinrand and Boshofberg with the majestic Kransberg in the background. The name Thabazimbi means mountain of iron because of the large iron ore reef that was discovered in 1919 by J.H. Williams. The mine boasts one of the largest mining shafts in Africa. More than 2 million tons of ore are mined every year and hauled by train to Mittal's iron and steel works. The railway line from Rustenburg reached the area in the 1930s and full scale iron and steel production began. The town was proclaimed in 1953. Kumba Iron Ore, previously Kumba Resources, is now the principal operator of the iron ore mine.

The staff is quick to serve and are conversant with the daily specials including what you will receive on your plate. The drinks were well served and the service equivalent to that of any upmarket restaurant in any city.

They advertise they have the best breakfast in town (few km out of town) - and this is TRUE. We ate the Pondok breakfast with very nice coffee. It was so delicious and filling. They also sell handmade items, jams, olives, etc. Very nice with...MoreAhhhhh, thank you so much for your kind review. It is good to see that we're not the only ones that think our breakfast is the best in town! ;)

This is an very over rating establishment and the nice websites and pictures is not what it seems to be in reality been there and will never visit again, the staff is rude and very unfriendly, I needed to go to the shop to buy Doom to get all of the bug out out of the room and out between the sheets, and that just tell me that they didn't clean the sheets, this management is unorganized and doesn't even know who their guest is, they are so occupied entertaining the locals at the bar and drinking at the bar that I rather went and ate the koolstoof in Thabazimbi which was a great place to eat

Discovered this spot as we were leaving nearby Marakele National Park. Had a very filling, very tasty and inexpensive lunch here. While we were looking at the menu, the owner came to our table to offer suggestions. Think stew in a bread bowl. It was great. It's easy to find on your right on Eland Street, just off the main highway. Highly recommended.
